Gnomon - time to move on

Today's unofficial question:

After a long walk, a man and his dog set out for home together, a distance of three miles. The man walked at a steady pace of four miles per hour, while the dog ran at twenty miles per hour. As soon as the dog reached home, he turned and ran back to the man. He continued to go backward and forwards between the man and the house until the man reached the house. How far did the dog run?

Whisky

OMG I'M STUPID, I just spent ten minutes trying to work this one out using some horrendous calculations...

Then...
Man walks at 4 mph, house is three miles away, therefore he walks for 45minutes

Dog runs continuously for 45 minutes at 20 mph, (in any direction, it doesn't matter he covers 15 miles

Gnomon - time to move on

Well done, Mycroft! You got the right answer so you get the unofficial consolation virtual point. Let's hope you worked it out the easy way (Dog walks five times as fast as man, man walks 3 miles, dog walks 15) rather than with Whisky's horrendous formulas!

You can call me TC

Kids do that too - run about three times as far as adults when out for a walk. Funny they don't have the energy to go upstairs to bed, though!
