When in Connemara avoid looking like a tourist by driving in the centre of the road. When you meet an oncoming vehicle ease into the left, wave as you pass, and then return to the centre of the road.
There are two valid reasons for driving in the centre of the road
A) Sheep - theses woolly b*****s like to walk along the edge of the roads. If you hit one you have two courses of action 1. If there are people about, stop, call for a vet and the Gardai.
2. If there is nobody about (usual) drive on quickly unless you want a freezer full of dead sheep in which case stop and put it into your car boot.
B) American tourists- treat as for sheep

Well, when THIS American tourist was in Eire, this advice would have been irrelevant, because the only ones who could afford to drive WERE American tourists. People from elsewhere tended to go places involving sun, and the Irish themselves were the ones walking behind the flocks of sheep. It was a snap driving actually. I hear things have improved a bit (except the weather), but I bet that hasn't helped the driving any...
