Hey folks. I'd like to recommend my entry for the edited guide because I think old-time music is a fantastic and little-known way to really get down and shake your booty. Tell me what you think.

Good entry. Interesting and educational. I'm not sure that anything needs to changed at all - except maybe your headings. Instead of bold, maybe put them in the header style, and call them:
Origin
Instrumentation
Bluegrass vs. Old-time
Current recordings available
This, however, is only a suggestion. I think the entry is fine as it is.

Lentilla--
Thanks for the vote of confidence. The headings, as coded by me, ARE in the header format--I believe they're H4--and I can't say for sure why they're black instead of orange like everyone else's. My knowledge of HTML is quite limited--any thoughts?

Try changing the format to GuideML (similar, but not quite HTML) and use tags to get the bar style headers as seen on the site.

Thanks, Phil()! Like a charm it worked.

It's OK. If you need any more GuideML (it's the standard used in all guide entries) check out Bruce's GuideML clinic. I think it's linked from the front page.

Looks like the kind of comprehensive, easy-to-read, and dare I say it? ***HELPFUL*** Guide entry we were all hoping to read today. Thanks, Dr. F, for making my day. Maybe in the forum you can post a couple of record titles for those of us with some money to burn.

That's a great piece. I'm going to look for some of those names at the cd store where I work. You mention hollering right at the beginning. A few months ago I found a used cd in the folk section called "Hollerin'" (Rounder CD 0071). Now, there ain't a whole lot of hollering going on where I grew up on the outskirts of London, but I've heard of it, and probably seen a piece about it on the BBC. So I took it home... turns out it was recorded at the 1975 and 1976 world hollering contest at Spivey's Corner, NC. I found it fascinating, but when I played it for my wife when she got home... I know the phrase "rolling around the floor with laughter", but I've never actually seen anyone do it! She was utterly helpless and out of control. She could barely get the words out "Please, make it stop". Tears were rolling down her face and her sides ached for an hour afterwards. And she's a Southerner for cryin' out loud! I'm playing it now, but I don't play it when she's around, I don't want her to have an apoplexy!

Gosh, I feel all warm and fuzzy. Following jqr's suggestion in this forum, I'm going to post record recommendations in the forum for the entry. I'll also explain there why I didn't do that in the entry itself.

Ugggh! how come this marvel lingers at the very bottom of the Writing Workshop? It belongs in the Peer Review!

Bossel--
Should I repost it there? I had assumed, back in the day, that it was merely rejected.

Never mind--I took the initiative and stuck it in Peer Review myself. Thanks for the encouragement--I'd actually forgotten I'd written it until you brought it up.
Congratulations!

Editorial Note: This thread has been moved out of the Peer Review forum because this entry has now been recommended for the Edited Guide.
If they have not been along already, the Scout who recommended your entry will post here soon, to let you know what happens next. Meanwhile you can find out what will happen to your entry here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/SubEditors-Process
Congratulations!

Hello Editors,
This morning, I couldn't help noticing that the "recommended" tag on the entry had vanished and was not replaced by the "pending" tag. Have I caught it in a moment of transition, or is it rejected after all?
Congratulations!
Monsignore Pizzafunghi Bosselese Posted Jul 16, 2001
None of these
The vanishing of the 'recommended' flag is part of the new h2g2 (internal) software version, Ripley 1.5. I'm using 'part' because it's still under discussion whether this is a bug or a feature
Ripley 1.5 also has a (shoot-me-to-a) 'RandomEntry' feature!
To check that, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/versions , then follow the link to Ripley 1.5
Congratulations!
Monsignore Pizzafunghi Bosselese Posted Jul 16, 2001
Just Don't panic!
BTW: the search engine didn't show the 'recommended' and 'pending' flags after migrating to 1.5 -- right now it does ?!
Congratulations!
Dr. Funk Posted Jul 17, 2001
No, I think it's the other way around. I don't know exactly when you migrated to 1.5, but the flags were there before and now they ain't. Hope this helps. Troubleshooting is a real pain in the rear, eh?
Congratulations!
Monsignore Pizzafunghi Bosselese Posted Jul 17, 2001
it is, it is
But I guess we're talking of different thinks.
The entry itself, and the link on one's homespace still don't show the 'recommended' flag (but 'pending' is there).
The /index page always did, and still does.
The search engine for some time didn't, and now does again.
Weird, eh?
Congratulations!
Lentilla (Keeper of Non-Sequiturs) Posted Jul 18, 2001
I've put the question to the Scout team, just in case... but it's probably a problem with the system.
