There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I vividly remember, as if it was yesterday, waking up that morning to the 6am news on the BBC, midnight in New York, that John Lennon had just been shot. It was Brian Redhead I think, who brought me that news on the Today programme. When I got to work, where we always had Radio 1 on, it was wall-to-wall Lennon and Beatles all day long, naturally.

How on earth can that be 35 years ago? smiley - headhurts

Rev Nick - dead man walking (mostly)

It must be temporal distortions of some sort. Getting ready for work, my new tape of Double Fantasy just clicked off and was replaced by local radio - with that mind-numbing news. As upsetting as when Mr Obison expired as well.

Temporal distortion... that'll be it. Which also accounts for the extra hour I added between London and New York smiley - doh

Baron Grim

I was a serious fan of the Beatles, but for an odd reason. I was just beginning a life battling depression and really had no idea what was going on. I knew I didn't fit in or make friends easily and I wanted to do nothing that would make me stand out for ridicule any more than I already did. I figured no one would criticize me for being a Beatles fan, they seemed to be universally adored. Not even my parents would object. So I bought a couple of their albums beyond the two "Best Of" albums I was given before. I had Revolver and Magical Mystery Tour. I wanted The White Album, but that one had too much controversy surrounding it.

Anyway, when I heard about the shooting, I felt wounded. I was still a kid, of course, so emotions were high anyway. But yeah, I remember hearing it on the evening news after school. It left me sad and confused... well, even more sad and confused than I already was.
