The unexploded German bomb found in Bethnal Green yesterday is still making news (because it hasn't yet been defused), and this is the third WW2 bomb to be dealt with in London this year. There must be many more lying under the ground all over the capital.

How often do unexploded British bombs in German cities make the news?

Allied bombs are always being found. And it often makes the news. Especially if a large community has to be evacuated while the bomb disposal people are called in.

Up the road from us, in Landau, there was supposed to be a huge garden show in 2014. Because they kept finding bombs whilst digging, the show didn't open till this year. At least, that was their story. I think they may have been using it as an excuse because they were behind with the work.

It is heartening to know that both sides were obviously not very good at making bombs that worked, or why should there still be so many unexploded ones kicking around?

Obviously, I'm not German, but a quick search says quite often.

currently it seems to be at least one a week, they often don't make the news, and rarely the headlines because it's so many. I live on the UK side of the Rhine/Ruhr industrial area, often unused bombs were jettisoned here, or if they thought they couldn't get where they were going they dropped them early.

It's a serious problem currently because all the Autobahn bridges are being rebuilt and reinforced and the bridges are often in places where there have been bridges for many many years, and were targets during the war.
