Last night, for the first time in my life and at the age of 48, pushing 49, I listened to a Grateful Dead CD (Fillmore East 2-11-69)... and I rather liked it I've only listened to disc one so far, and I didn't much care for their rendition of Hey Jude, but I enjoyed everything else I heard
I've signed a few more Dead CDs out from Cheapo and I'll give them a listen over the weekend
Now I need to start exploring Zappa.

Funny, whatever your name happens to be, I always know it's one of your threads!
Can't comment on the content, however - much too young and innocent

Have never ever listen ed to them, but can you believe, at 28, that I've only just got into Morrissey? I used to live in Manchester, too. The worrying thing is, I think he sounds quite cheerful

Eek, maybe I'm not as young as I think compared to you two young whippersnappers!
*Butting into Ooky's thread*: Skanky, I didn't understand your last comment in that PR thread. Am I being thick?

I think I'm going to give them both a chance, as well as Captain Beefheart I bought Doc At The Radar Station and Shiny Beast Bat Chain Puller when they came out, but that's all the Beefheart I know

I think that I can honestly say that I've never knowingly heard anything ever recorded by the Grateful Dead. The ice cream is very good though
Skankyrich, we can let you off not knowing much about Morrissey on account of your age. You were in your first years of primary school during the golden age of The Smiths. You couldn't be expected to know better.
Now me, being 10 years older than you; Morrissey sang directly and solely for me, and straight into my heart. And that is view that is held by all of us Smiths fans who are now pushing hard on 40 years of age

Sorry Jules, was probably being very opaque - I had Cameron Highlands and Traditional Climbing picked on the same day So having seen you lurking around the Camino one, I thought I was on a hat-trick but of course you'd picked one instead of the other
I just have this habit of presuming everyone knows what I'm on about even when all the voices are in my own head

A twist at post 4 and then again at post 9?
Sorry, but that's practically keeping on topic for these parts.
Now where's this badger that everyone keeps banging on about?

"Sorry, but that's practically keeping on topic for these parts."
And you should know, GD
Morrisey... I was living in Manchester at the time he was still with Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds but I never actually got up off me arse to go and see them - too busy going to see The Smirks, The Clash, XTC, The Fall, The Piranhas

Funny you should mention...
Today, my friend, circa the same age you and I are, commented that it felt like just yesterday that he was bombing around in his fully-loaded 1979 Camaro, listening to Jethro Tull on the 8-track, tearing the corner off his driver's license to use as a filter for a hash joint and today, as we were speaking, he was sitting in his rocking lounger, watching squirrels and listening to Randy Travis....
"I must be getting old" said he.

I am the same age and I still like Jethro Tull and dislike Randy Travis, so that must bode well for me.
