h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I've got a paid week off booked starting on Friday but to all intents and purposes I'm already on my hols.

Today was my last full bar shift for the current schedule (which runs from Friday to Thursday). Tomorrow (Wednesday) I was scheduled to go in for an hour or two to attend the weekly manager meeting but that's been cancelled so I don't have to go in at all. On Thursday I have to go in for an hour or two to do the bar order and leave instructions for the bartenders who are going to be taking care of the order while I'm away and also the inventory on Thursday evening next week.

So I'm pretty much as good as done until Friday Feb. 1st.

With temperatures forecast in the 60s and 70s for Austin next week I think I'll be staying in south central Texas

My plans are to do very little. Well, relatively speaking. I'm going to use the time to go shopping for some things I need but which involve convoluted bus journeys that I just can't be arsed to deal with on my one full day off each week. I'm also going to spend a lot of time importing a lot of my music into Audacity, remastering it, exporting it as mp3s, and then importing those into iTunes so that when I go back to work I can upload those to the iTunes that's on the music PC in the kitchen office, diluting all that f'ing death metal and hardcore punk that the kitchen monkeys have put on there with some dance band music from the 1930s, swing and big band from the 1940s, lounge and easy listening from the 1950s, a lot of the live recordings of independent origin I have (everything from Tyrannosaurus Rex to Led Zeppelin to The Smiths to Paul Weller... and yes, Barry Manilow ), and most of my CDs. That should more than double the amount of music that's on there right now.

I already put a bunch of stuff on there, like The Archers theme tune and Peter Sellers singing Unchained Melody as Bluebottle, but I'm using the Audacity software to remaster it, upping the volume, removing clicks, fading applause in or out so that live tracks don't start or end abruptly, and generally making it sound a whole lot better. For an open source piece of freeware, Audacity really is very good.

Oh, I'm also going to eat out a good deal, and do some baking.

I know you've sworn off PR, but given the list of music you just rattled off, would you consider giving my latest effort a glance? You would probably have a better background to judge its merit than some others that are there, and you could leave any comments you had here, on my space or on the entry. I'd appreciate your thoughts.
