Welcome to h2g2.
It's nice to see such enthusiasm from a newbie 
Unfortunately, I think the normal procedure is that you need to write a few Edited Guide Entries before you become a sub-editor, so you can learn firsthand how the process works and get acquianted with the Writing-Guidelines.
So maybe you should have a look around PeerReview while you wait for an official answer from our Editors - you can comment on works in progress there, and, of course, submit one of your own.
