Very informative. I especially liked thee way you took us back to the beginning of public concern with such matters. (I'm a sucker for etiologies.)
Definitely a no-nonsense and un-preachy approach to the subject.

Fascinating, thanks for writing it. It was particularly interesting to learn that not health, but money was the main reason for the laws back then, even if they were triggered by deaths through poisoning.

This makes for an interesting and insightful Entry
Just one query: should the word 'entry' have a capital 'E'?

everyone
No, the word 'entry' itself doesn't need capitalising - the guidelines state:
"We capitalise 'Edited Entry', 'Guide Entry' and the 'Guide', as we believe all of these are worthy of uppercase status. However, use lower case when talking about entries in general."
Thus I could have used 'Guide Entry' instead of 'entry'.

So that's how we got to where we are, and I have to worry about the dope plants growing under my bird feeders...
Very thorough and balanced

Well how extraordinary
That was my post they removed. I only said something along the lines that I liked it and it was balanced. My crime, I guess, was to mention something that grew in my garden, under the bird feeders. I won't mention it again but it must be obvious to anyone who feeds the birds on seeds purchased from bird food suppliers.
How very very ridiculous

I had a speedy crack at setting off the filter and I feel a bit of a weed for not managing to.

Maybe the word dope triggered the secondary filter? I guess we'll know soon.

- sorry,
It's just pot luck whether you trigger the filter. Maybe someone grassed on you?
Oh, good entry, Alex

It was the moderators wot dun it, not the filter
I see they've put it back now. They must be feeling more mellow...

I understand there was a nutty belief back in that era when people were open to nutty beliefs, that smoking banana skins was a way to take a trip. It was "a sudden craze". At some point, someone must have actually got round to trying it, and discovered it didn't work
Maybe it turned them mellow yellow
