The introduction is rather disingenuous about monorails. Variations have been around since the 19th century and a system has run in Germany from the beginning of the 20th century.

I agree, this article is rather unfair on the subject.
In Japan, and now some other countries in the far East, monorails are being built as practical urban transport for commuters and carry hundreds of thousands of passengers every day.
