Right frame refuses to load anything but disclaimer?

At http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/F72468?thread=127741&latest=1 the right frame will load only the BBC disclaimer, and nothing else. I have this same problem in both Mozilla and IE. Other people seem to be able to read it just fine, as it's getting replies. What should I do?

It did much the same for me. I also had the navigation buttons and one LED (for "Show postings 1 to 20"). When I clicked the LED, the page reloaded with all the conversations and all the LEDs in their proper places.

Actually it looks likes some how the LEDs are a page out. (The penultimate LED loads the last page). I'm not sure why though.

How very bizarre! Not sure why, but it looks like something got itself in a twist somehow - no idea why...

Anyway, I *think* I've fixed it by moving it out and back into the Forum... go take a look. Hope it works!

Uh-oh. The tool I used crashed when moving it back, and it seems to have hidden every Posting in the Conversation. I wasn't expecting that - sorry. smiley - sadface

I'll look into it and try to get it unhidden. But at least you should be able to post to it now... smiley - erm

Might take a bit to fix, too, as we no longer have direct database accesss... smiley - erm

But I'm sure we'll get it back. Bleedin' tools - no good when they crash on you, are they? smiley - sadface

Be Nice Amy! It isn't his fault... SQL databases are built using Micro$oft technology... so we all know who to blame when something unexpected happens... don't we!

Latest news - this will be fixed in the next upgrade to the DNA application, as we can't submit SQL queries to the database any more, and that's the only time we can slip it in. I'm really sorry about that, but I couldn't help it! smiley - sadface

Hopefully it'll be in 2-3 weeks. Best I can do, I'm afraid... smiley - grovel

"SQL databases are built using Micro$oft technology... so we all know who to blame when something unexpected happens... don't we!"

Not in this case, and in actual fact, never in the lifetime of h2g2. We've suffered from plenty of bugs in our time, but *not once* have any of them been caused by SQL Server. In fact, for about 4 months last year, SQL server was running on a machine whose SCSI system appeared to be gradually failing, but not once did we have a problem with it.

Every one of the bugs we've suffered have been at our own hands and believe me, I'm as quick as anyone to look for bugs in someone else's code.

So don't be so quick with the knee-jerk 'Microsoft are evil therefore all their products suck' because it just isn't true.

They are evil, though. Except my mates Dave and Andy.

If anyone's interested, the reason for the problem in the first place was because the forum in question is the result of misguided souls putting random buttons on pages which posted to fora. At some point in its life, someone (i.e. one of you smiley - smiley) mistyped a number, so a good proportion of posts in the thread have an invalid forum ID.

Of course, if I'd made use of the excellent foreign key constraint feature of the not-evil-at-all SQL Server, perhaps this wouldn't ever have happened, but that just demonstrates again how wrong it is to leap to the assumption that Bill Gates did it.

Sorry if this is long and ranty, but when a company has so much to criticise, a blanket 'all MS is crap' attitude actually helps no one.

So shouldn't it be "this posting has been removed because it broke the House Tools in some way"?
