Gnomon - time to move on

In the picture for the entry A87844071 (which has not yet been published), you have 30 February as Wednesday, but the next day 1 March as Tuesday. It should be Thursday.

hey guys -smiley - cheerup firstly Gnomon - I am sure you didn't actually mean to come across as rude and demanding. Don't forget that you're not paying the artist here, and in fact you don't really have the right to have anything illustrated at all, it's just the good will of your colleagues. Please consider the effect your words have on others, particularly in a public arena such as h2g2.

It's a really minor pictorial error, and one which has not been noticed by any of the team that worked on this Entry - on your behalf. That's not only me, but Tavaron, GB, Milla, Bluebottle as well as other Artists. As GB said, it was presumed to have been made like that on purpose. Others share this view.

So, I suggest you should apologise to FWR, because it seems to me and other volunteers who have contacted me about this problem that you've overstepped the mark here.

and secondly - I'd like to publicly state how much in debt we are to FWR who is one of the very best artists we have had volunteering for h2g2. His artwork is without doubt of very high calibre, always imaginative and creative, professional and speedily returned. So, FWR, if you read this please accept my personal apologies for this unfortunate episode. smiley - peacedove

Gnomon - time to move on

Of course we owe a great debt to FWR, and of course I didn't mean to sound rude. But he clearly did intend to be rude to me, calling me a dinosaur and saying I was out to score points by proving I was cleverer than everybody else. That is highly insulting to me and I am deeply offended. That has never been my intention although I admit I was happy to receive the 200 entry badge today.

I consider the picture, while a beautiful piece of art, is misleading. Please fix it, remove it or remove my name from that entry.

And please remove my 200 entry badge. Ill not have anybody say I'm in this to score points or claim I'm better than anyone else.

So now I'm being called an "ill mannered lout", because I requested the editors to make a minor change to an illustration. If it was a mistake in the text I was reporting, I'd be thanked and the change would be made, or I'd be told that the change was not going to be made.

Instead, the person responsible insults me and storms out. I report the insult to the moderators but am told it is going to be left there. Then other people who had previously been my friends insult me, calling me an ignorant lout. I'm told that requesting a minor change in a illustration is "overstepping the mark".

You can see exactly what I said in the first posting of this conversation. Does this make me an "ignorant lout"? Does this mean I am "point scoring by trying to be sooooo clever that they have to pick on every little detail" and a "dinosaur"? Is this "overstepping the mark"?

Gnomon.

I think you put that first post in a very factual wording.

I didn't want to respond here, but you keep pushing your innocencse, and I don't agree.

You seem to forget that when someone puts a lot of effort and time into something, they will need a kind request, formed with kind words, or they will interpret a factual statement very very harshly, and be very very hurt.

Please try to understand that this has happened. FWR was hurt. So hurt that we lost a very valuable artist, and we don't have many artists.

If you have an opinion on something, I ask you to consider how your words may be interpreted.

And I speak this from personal experience. I often forget to put kind words around a factual request, and it has hurt my in my job. I have hurt people, I've come across as flippant and sarcastic when I've had the kindest intent. So, please take this as friendly advice. I don't like conflicts, but I hope you can appreciate that this is in good meaning.

Kindly

Thank you for that Milla.

My request was put to the Editors. I request things from the Editors regularly and I think they know my style. I did not expect that the artist concerned would take this as a personal insult. I thought that the change I requested could be done in less than a minute so I didn't think it was a big deal.

I see now that the amount of work depends on what way FWR designed the picture. If he kept a layered version it might still only take a minute to do. If not, it might be a big job and I certainly don't want to put anybody to a lot of trouble.

Nevertheless I am still deeply offended, not only by FWR but also by other people's behaviour in this.

Witty Moniker

Gnomon, you keep repeating that all you did was point out a mistake that needed to be corrected. You seem to be the only person here that hasn't considered that the arrangement of dates on the calendar is intentional

Perhaps you should consider the possibility that you didn't perceive the cleverness of FWR's work.

Perhaps you could try to look at this from another point of view.

Perhaps the mistake is yours.

You've always been a very direct communicator, Gnomon, and I'm surprised they don't remember that - you've been here long enough. It works both ways of course. When you say you appreciate something, it's praise indeed.

Someone who hasn't been here so long didn't realise that your comments weren't critical. I wonder if that's been explained to them.

I hope we haven't lost two valuable contributors.

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I wish we could learn to communicate instead of stomping off in self-righteous indignity.

A direct quote from the Entry;

>>They decided at this stage to change back to the Julian calendar. To do this, for one year only they introduced a second leap day, 30 February, 1712, after the normal leap day, 29 February, 1712.

>>It is hard to imagine the confusion that such a step would cause in the modern world -

This is the line echoed in the photo. I think that, not only is the picture correct, it is the best possible illustration for this entry.
