Flea Market

I just had a look at the Flea Market and I think there are some Entries in it which should be removed because they have been picked up and are now edited. I seem to have found two:

A599420 - How to Star Gaze
A772210 - Cartoon Genius in the USA

I also saw that some Entries seem to be in the Flea Market twice. smiley - huh

The Cartoon Genius one is now in the Publishing Queue as A87796462.

I can't find any sign of an entry on Stargazing, though. Have you got the A number for it, Tav?

Here it is: A87788902

I also saw there is the Sonic games Entry still there and I remember one being approved not long ago.

I found this one in the Flea Market today A1285797 which seems to have no Entry attached to it!

Oh A1285797 is there all right. It's just got an error in it which prevents it from being displayed in Pliny. You can see it in Brunel, Alabaster or Classic Goo.

It's probably just dodgy GuideML. I haven't the energy to figure out the problem, but I'll do it if anyone wants to adopt the entry.

Ah, I see it. It uses guide and body tags, when they should be GUIDE and BODY tags. When the BBC wrote the basis for Pliny, they decided in their wisdom that some tags had to be in uppercase.

Makes sense. Annoying but at least rather easy to fix.

re A1285797
I've fixed the lower case/ upper case problem, so this entry is now visible in Pliny.

And we do know about this problem of invisible Entries Tav, it is quite common and like this one is usually down to dodgy GuideML. Normally we just fix it - like we've done here - but there are less and less to be found as we curate quite a lot each day. Or rather Gnomon does smiley - wow

(I had to use the italic account to fix this one, as it is not 'Edited' - curators' permissions do not extend to anything other than entries with status 1, ie Edited Guide Entries)

In answer to Tav's query about Entries still in Flea Market that need removing - <BB< has been working tirelessly to get the FM tidied. When we took over from the BBC it must have been twice as long as it is now. We periodically go through some of them and chuck them out, remove them because they have been edited. We even send things here... Quite a lot of the totally hopeless ones have been removed.

It's a monumental task, and one that we do when we have a spare half an hour with nothing else *more vital* to do.

There is a card in the Scouts Trello page Tav, to note Entries for us to remove. We can't subscribe to all the Entries that are actually in Flea Market, so we've been listing them in Trello.

I've assigned y'all to it! smiley - biggrin

smiley - cheers Thank you.
I know that there are problems with old/new GuideML, but I wasn't aware of whole Entries that disappear.

Thanks for the invite to the trello board. I'll search through the FM again and let you know what I find. smiley - smiley

Yep, How to Star Gaze should be removed now from the Flea Market.

Regarding the Sonic, entry, the original was fairly long, so I split my rescue attempt in two. The first half, covering the 1990s, has been approved but part two: A87766249 The Sonic the Hedgehog Series and Spin-offs: 2000-2004
is still in Peer Review. As it hasn't been approved, the original is still in the Flea Market.

Have fun in the Flea Market - and feel free to rescue anything there that you find!smiley - wow

It has started me on a quest to find all Edited Entries that have the same incorrect GuideML in them. I have an automatic scanner which can look out for such things.
