Ducky Darkling, The lost.

I was on this site before it switched to BBC. After a while I had forgotten about the site. I am back now and trying to figure out my original User ID. I have fould out that I have 2 extra ID's that I am willing to delete if I can find my original. My original Researcher # is: Researcher157102

My ID is: A457328

Is there any way that I can get access to that id again? And is there any way that someone might be able to tell me what the userid is?

Thanks.

"For what I know of it, you should have had access to BBC-HooToo prior to 13th October 2003, just to be able to use your old account. But you can always try.

The used Id of your old avvount seems to be < U157102 > As you pointed out by the entry number containing the content of your Personal Space. < A457328 > (this is an entry)

You are currently using the account < U714482 > wich can not be deleted. That is any posting or entry ever created on the DNA servers remains there, the best you can do is remove things from sight. "

I appreciate the help, but it doesn't help me log into that account. Do you know of a way to get the member name? I hope that I am explaining myself good.

"You have a 'login name' or 'user id' combined with the password to log into the site. I have no idea how to (if possible) to get yours. It would be a violation of the security, so I do not even search for a way to find it.

You also have a 'screen name' or 'nick name', shown with a link to your Persoanl Space above every posting, and next to each of your entries. "

True, but I know that some sitesAllow you to get your user id email to the email address listed in the settings. I wish that was possible here. hopefully I still have that address.

You could try emailing h2g2DOTsupportATbbcDOTcoDOTuk

(replacing DOT with . and AT with @ ) with as many login details as you can remember for your original id, such as email addy, password, user id etc to see if they can help.

Until last year it was possible to update pre BBC accounts to BBC accounts but last year they created a new log in system called SSO and when they did the software changes it became no longer possible to migrate the pre bbc accounts.

However, it is always worth asking if the staff can do it smiley - ok

As TT says, no-one will be in the office until Monday.

Hope that is of some help

Well, accually it looks like you are able to cancel accounts here. If you clikc on "Retrieve My Details" in the upper right and enter your password, at the bottom it says "Alternatively you can cancel your entire membership". But of course I have not tried to use it so I would not know.

SEF

That's one of the many misleading things in the official spiel. I think there was a time pre-BBC when it was true (except stuff written would still exist but that tended to be less back then). Then it wasn't true for a while (there are a number of conversations about this). Now it is true again in the sense that the staff can render an account inoperable. However, although you can empty your PS and other pages still registered to you and manually unsubscribe from conversations, the post contents will still remain.

If your old account really is too old, ie last used pre-BBC (first set of login changes), then it is inoperable in yet another way merely because no-one can login. It looks like an account but it isn't one any more in a meaningful sense. Yet neither is it officially cancelled or emptied. Beneath the BBC veneer, there's some sort of account twilight zone or event horizon into which stuff can fall - in this case things are visible inside but no events can take place.

Pingu's Dad

Sounds like a similar story to mine, didn't log on for a while, forgot my details and then couldn't retrieve them 'cos a new system was in place...

Anyway, if you'll excuse the subtle elbow manoeuvre to add my own personal interest to this conversation, I've become accustomed to my new new researcher id and have no wish to change again but is there any way I can get my (only) article A599925 back? I was reminded of its existence recently and would like to polish it off...

smiley - ermPD

PS You'll see how out of date it is, referring to the fish on the bicycle that used to be an H2G2 banner...

"No bicycle fish? < <./>/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A599925</.> > ?

Anyway, you can copy the content using < <./>test599925</.> > to a new entry.
Open a new entry using < <./>UserEdit</.> > and paste.
remember to remove the:

Traffic Lights
from the top and the

from the bottom. This could be done in a minute. Do not forget to post a comment to the original entry. And make it clear you are the same person with another identity. smiley - erm "
