Went to see Jeff Beck at the Manchester Apollo last night. Hard to believe that this is the same person responsible for 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' smiley - laugh

A great concert of Jazz Fusion, Hard Rock and almost Baroque.

The bass player he has with him at the moment a young girl called Tal, I think from Australia, is marvelous.

Being so used to the MEN arena, I'd forgotten how intimate the Apollo can be.

Great night

Aye, I sometimes find a bruise that I've no recollection of getting.

I know I saw The Clash there twice, but I went there other times too and I've no idea who I saw. No, I tell a lie. I saw The Smirks there on one occasion and they were the support, but I can't recall who was the main band.

Rafters bring back any memories? One of the first things that happened to me when I moved to Manchester was that I got dragged along there... well, I didn't need much persuasion to be honest, to see XTC smiley - biggrin That would have been 1978, I'd already seen them several times in London, and I saw them a few more times besides in Manchester.

But not at the Apollo... I think.

There was this weird little venue in Stockport that I went to a few times to see The Smirks, called Ray's Place. I think it might have been a community centre or youth club or some such kind of building, and I guess some bloke called Ray hired it as a music venue a few times a month, perhaps the way that Tony Wilson took over The Russell Club a few nights a week to create The Factory. It looked like a prefab and it wasn't much bigger, and to be honest with you it was a bit of a toilet, but I had some great evenings there.

I've heard of Ray's Place, bit too far off my beaten track tho' as I live near Bolton, and night buses were/are c**p
