Does it never stop?!?!
Arlecchino (school gets in the way) Posted Oct 17, 2001
UH, in your last three postings you have vehemently denied being an alcoholic, repeatedly stating that you could give it up whenever you wanted to. But no one said you couldn't, no one called you an alcoholic. I don't know how to say this well, so I'll just ask you, why do you feel the need to insist that you are not something we haven't said you were? Are you alright? Is something wrong?
Does it never stop?!?!
Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Oct 17, 2001
i thought someone might say that...no arl, i can promise you im not an alcoholic.
i was only being vehemnet because sea constantly accuse me off of it. believe me, im really not. i am responsible with alcohol. so there
but thanks for the concern, eh? im glad people like you are there to notice these things and care.

i don't drink. i prefer boys that don't drink. i see nothing wrong with drinking socially, but CA teenagers aren't responible. they're stupid. i see why sea wouldn't like that, because i don't either.

UH!!!
hooray for psycho girl! i agree, californian guys are stupid. i've been to the row on weekends enough times to know that!
and UH... i never said that people who drink don't deserve love. but they don't get mine. i'm picky about who i give that to. and I DO NOT repeatedly accuse you of being an alcoholic. i haven't accused you of that for quite some time now. i'm trying not to be judgemental. it's not my fault that when i say "no comment", you automatically assume i'm calling you an alcoholic!
(the guy sitting next to me is REALLY cute. just thought i'd mention it.)

UH, glad to hear. Me, I don't drink, and I have troule relating to people when they are drunk. 'Nika doesn't drink often, and never to get drunk -- that, and she knows and respects how I feel about alcohol.
Sea, what's his name?

i have great fun relating to people when they are drunk...is a great social thing, but most importantly i can drink without being drunk...

his name is adam. i might've mentioned him before. SO cute.
alcohol is a great social thing? it's also a TERRIBLE social thing.

I ask the people beside me
Miles says: 'possibly. more people have fun with alcohol then turn into alcoholics. but more people get too drunk'
Dave says: 'it depends ont he culture you are in'
so the tests are conclusive. Its unanimously a good thing.
for a further scientific study, i will survey everyone i find in the bnearest pub.
for my part i know no alcoholics. i also know lots of people who have met stable and loving girlfriends while drunk.
i also have this massive fization on alcohol which i will now stop.

Well, I think that both are right and a middle ground is the most reasonable. Lots of decent people drink and even occasionally to excess. But if you judged them solely on that, you would make a big mistake. Judge the whole person, based on their values, not just one small aspect of their behaviour. And remember, too, that these are pretty young people you are talking about. Males of that age typically feel invincible and take crazy risks, feeling that "it won't happen to me". That is why insurance rates are so high for them. I speak from experience here - I was once that age, you know . And when I was that age, I drank with my friends and got drunk. Many times. And look at me now. Wait...maybe I should pursue a different argument.
No, seriously, the behaviour of boys at 18 or 20 is not necessarily indicative of what they will turn out like when they grow up, er, older. In my case, I almost never have alcohol now - I can't remember the last time I drank anything alcoholic. But when I was that age, it was a lot of fun to get drunk and we were perfectly harmless. I guess what I am trying to say is that you should look beyond the simple fact of drinking/not drinking and judge the whole person. Their behaviour while drunk can give you some clues, though. If they are violent when drunk, definately strike them from your list. If they are silly and clown around while drunk , well, they are probably okay.

thanks for that perspective, GL. you're right, of course, the dopey drunks are usually pretty good guys. however, i think one of the reasons i don't want to date drinkers is because i really don't go to parties much. if i wanted to go with a guy, he'd drink, and i'd be bored out of my skull. if i didn't go, i'd think he was cheating on me while he was drunk. or he WOULD be cheating on me.
it's sad, but that's the way it would be.
and UH, you may think i'm wrong, but in all the conversations we've had about this, you have called me judgemental, tried to extole the virtues of drinking to me, and otherwise told me that i SHOULD drink. thanks a lot, hon, but that's something i'll decide for myself, as is whether or not i will date guys who drink.

Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Oct 19, 2001
sea...heh, my fault, i will naturally stop this. if i was going out with a girl who didnt want to go to a party then i wouldnt go to a party. i would also not drink if she wasnt drinking. its quite simple. you just have to look for the nice guys rather than the non drinkers.
also, big up to the GL for hitting the nail on the head.

i wish all boys were like that...
and they don't have to drink to cheat on you, or cheat on you because they're drunk...i know that on both accounts...what was i saying? oh, yeah, i totally agree with the sea, UH, and GL!

yay...
for myself, id find it very hard to live with myself if i cheated, especially when drunk. its no excuse
