Children as therapy?
Titania (gone for lunch) Started conversation Jan 15, 2005
I took Friday off from work and took a train very early in the morning to go visit my brother and his family, to baby-sit his kids together with my mother...
Ludwig's puppies are now 4 and 1½ years old, and I've only visited his family for a couple of hours at the most (arriving before lunch, leaving before dinner)...
And I was amazed at how comfortable and trusting the kids were, spending an entire day with me and my mother, and going to bed without the presence of their parents!
My nephew (4) is a rather serious kid - he really likes books and science and dinosaurs and the universe and... everything. Most of all, he really enjoys someone taking the time to read out loud all those interesting books that he's got, trying to answer all his questions and paying him some attention. And he fell asleep on my arm while I was reading this book about aquariums to him...
My niece (1½) is like sunshine - full of energy and joy! And bright! She wanted me to read books to her, but she took her time choosing which books, taking out one book, rejecting it and putting it back, taking out anotheer book...
And then, when we were looking through this song book, there was a particular song that requires some swinging back and forth of the kid involved - and she made me repeat it at least ten times saying 'moor!' 'moor!'
*proud aunt moment*
One of my friends once said that I ought to work with small children, because I'm so good at understanding them, at their level - but I've always been thinking that I lack the authority - I tend to be more of a 'friend' than 'parent'.
And I still think I lack the authority - but spending more than 24 hours with these kids made me feel sooooo good!

Spot on Hati!
Ludwig's kids are so special to me because I can borrow them when I want to - but I also get to return them once they get really tricky...

Yeah, that's it. I think that's why it would be good to be a grandmother. Not yet, though.
