Well, I've got one present ready, thanks to my brother (aka Ludwig) but I also thought I'd buy her a 'little something' and my brother suggested ear clips.
See, she wants to wear earrings, but her parents will not allow her to get her ears pierced (and they're quite right, IMO - oh, and that's because she turns just 5).
So, clips it is.
If you're looking for clips for kids in Stockholm, forget it.
So far, I've found some decent ones in adult style.
And then some awful, horrible, bling-bling silver or gold coloured plastic jewelry branded Bratz - worthless or even worse role models
*shudders*
You know, a year or two ago the toy store (Toys R Us) in the shopping mall closest to where I live arranged a bratz-look-alike for kids up to 12 years old.
Seriously, what kind of parent would like for their minor aged daughter to look like one of the Bratz?
Uhm... several, actually, as it turned out...
Any which way - when I was I kid, I remembered 'fake jewelry kits' with clips and matching necklace and arm ring - but it seems they don't make them any more...
So tomorrow after w*rk, I'll be running around like a headless chicken trying to find some kind of jewelry - but I fear it'll have to be of the 'adult' variety.
Oh well - I'll spice it up with some glittery self-adhesive flowers for her nails...

Bratz... further proof that American culture is headed downhill. The fact that we export this crap is proof that we're intent on taking the rest of the world with us!

I abhor those Bratz as well. Even the name of them sets a poor example.
I used to buy stick-on earrings for my girls when they were little. I wonder if they are still available. Indeed, they are!

When I was a teenager, earrings for pierced ears were actually rare, and I owned lots of screwback danglies, loved to wear them. Now you can't find screwbacks at all.

i'll let you in on a little secret: i don't remember even one earring or other bling-blings i have seen in my life. nor do i know even one other guy who does - except maybe for this one gay cousin (who is a fabulous hairdresser, by the way).
i do remember a lot of sweet girls though
i wonder what this says about society at large
but i digress,

I managed to find magnetic earrings! I had no idea they existed!

They look just like 'real' ones.
I also bought some sticky flowers with a small stone for her nails.
It was very amusing to see how very girly she has become, at the age of 5 - a veritable 'little princess'.
But both of them - niece and brother at 7½ - beat me in billiard! *mumble, grumble'

they do look nice indeed
was it douglas adams' who pointed out that all girls are genetically inclined to becoming little pink princesses at some point during their childhood
i can't remember, but i guess whoever wrote that is on to something
i can't count the numbers of fashion shows we had to witness whenever my daughter was visited by her girlfriends
