Well, in my post, knee-saving modifies the phrase "recumbent bike", not some other way. On a recumbent, your butt is lower down, in more of a seated position, and your legs are forward, like in a European sports car. In that position, you would have less weight on your knees, because your butt (and the seat) would be carrying 95% of your weight. And your pedaling energy would go all into turning the wheels, not holding your body up. So that's why knee-saving. One example Webpage from a recumbent manufacturer (picked at random; no endorsement implied) is:

Hey cool! I didn't know anything like that existed. I've really missed being able to go cycling and this looks to be a viable alternative. Cheers friend, when I'm in England next I'll stand you a pint or two!

hrm. I saw someone riding one of those the last time I was in central park. That'd be...umm...yesterday. They look comfortable and speedy (I got a good look at one, he almost mowed me down by the Met), and a tad silly, but I'm all for silly.
Definitely something to invest in once I ay for other stuff...like college...and stuff.

Why go to all the trouble of getting the pint in England & bringing it back to NYC? We have lots of good beer here in the city. Triv, you'll back me up on this, right?
I think the coolest/silliest part with the recumbent is the big flag you get to mount on the rear axle so that truckers and SUV drivers can see you weaving around them.

lol. I actually haven't been drinking in the city for a long time (most of that's done in Amherst, Ma) but the alcoholic substances I have inbibed in NYC were truly wonderful if only ecause the people I were with were truly wonderful. New York's like that. Sure the beer's good, bt the people are better.
Wanna hang out sometime jqr? I'm a half hour away from the city and I'd love to meet aother h2g2er in the flesh.

I'm just your ordinary 29-year-old New Yorker fellow, you know, so it's quite flattering to be treated so nicely.
Check out my entry on Williamsburg: http://www.h2g2.com/A412507 and pick one of the spots I've mentioned there if you like, Shadow (you too, Triv)!
