Stocks are still worn today as part of formal riding dress; for showing, dressage, side-saddle etc.

Along with tail coats and top hats, but that doesn't mean that it's practical to go out riding dressed like that all the time

Skittles - a famous Victorian courtesan scandalised London society riding in Hyde Park on a high stepping hack in a skin tight habit. She was the first woman of ill repute to appear in a Society venue.
Her 'boyfriend' who owned a livery stables nearby thought it would be good for 'trade' - in both senses!
