Requiem and the Chichester Psalms

I'm off to a concert tonight, Gordon's in the Grimsby Philharmonic Society choir and they have invited guests from the twin town of Königswinter. The choirs have had to learn the Hebrew words to Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms but at least I'll have a programme with translation
Also there will be a rendition of John Rutter's Requiem.
I confess I am rather looking forward to seeing Gordon in his tux...

The Chichester Psalms is very tricky to keep in tune. The quiet ending is just heart-melting if they can sing it properly.
Rutter's Requiem is a lovely schmaltzy piece.

Chichester Psalms are absolutely brilliant. When I sang it we put loads of work into getting the pronunciation right. Then the soloists breezed in and sang it all wrong and didn't give a damn. Not that the audience would have known.
I always thought Gordon sounded a good sort, but now I know he sings in a choir - that gains him a further 1000 brownie points!

thank youHere, TC, just for you: http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/news/Twin-towns-rejoice-operatic-spectacular/article-2768459-detail/article.html
Gordon is in the back (top) row of 4, he's on the extreme left. He's not just *in* the choir, he's the chairman

So if Cleethorpes is twinned with Königswinter, how come it was the Grimsby Choir invited them over?
I stayed in Bad Honnef when I was 12. It's only a mile or two up the Rhine from Königswinter. Lovely spot. See can you get Gordon to organise a "return match", and go along too.

This was the return match, Gordon was there last year. He's going to take me to Berlin soon, as I want to visit the museums there. It all takes some planning though, as he needs a carer/housesitter for his Mum. I would love to visit Königswinter though, and Gordon has friends there now
There are times you can't divide Grimsby & Cleethorpes and it's like one big town, this is one of them. Cleethorpes doesn't have an orchestral choir, though they have smaller choirs. The Grimsby Philharmonic was founded in 1852. Grimsby is twinned with Bremerhaven - I have no idea if they have a corresponding choir to the Grimsby Phil.

Only a reconstruction, as far as I can tell, but worth a look. How many miles to Babylon?

a reconstruction yes, but made with all the original parts found in babylon, i'm told
i wonder if it will ever be returned to it's rightful owners, the people of iraq
anyway, glad you had another nice night, agb. that's more important to me right now
