I've just discovered a rather bizarre tool after reading Alex's journal. Just paste something you've written (or something someone else has written) into the box at http://www.bookblog.net/gender/genie.html
Most of my work comes up "female", yet the one I wrote "out of the box" A14310569as a 40+y.o. single male, came up:
Words: 3233
Female Score: 3665
Male Score: 5323
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!
Success!

I suspected "Streakers and Streaking" A9559678 might score "male" and I was right!
Words: 5156
Female Score: 5515
Male Score: 7325

I think the Guide style forces Edited Entries into looking male. I tried "St Paul's Cathedral" which was written by Mina and it scored as resoundingly male.

Most of my entries come up as male, but the one about Empress Zoe came up as female, probably because of the number of times I used the word "she" in it.

I think you've got it, Gnomon, I just ran through an entry I wrote about a male performer and the genie said:
Words: 1712
Female Score: 1580
Male Score: 1813

I'm not surprised that there is a tendency for Entries to appear to be by male writers. The ultra-common word "the" is classified as a 'male' word. "Me" and "myself" are classified as 'female' words, but these would be subbed out as contravening House Guidelines.

Nope, I am definately a bloke: I've just tried a load of non-h2g2 stuff and I still got the same result.

Well either that softwear is wrong or my eyesight needs testing, 'cos I've met you and you're definitely a girl, even if you do drink pints.

Traveller in Time apparently female
"Just dropped a bit of extremely dry documentation in the genie, It says I am female The dodo is obviously male, no detection it is extinct however. "
