To say I had today planned with military precision is putting it mildly.
I couldn't believe my luck that I would make the London meet-up & get to watch the Men's Final at Wimbledon, because it was late ending.
Things started to go wrong yesterday, when I arrived home caked in London grime & desperate bath, turned on my hot water heater and nothing happened...
Luckily I have 3-star cover with British Gas so I rang their emergency number.
"Sorry madam, that's not an emergency. We will be with you asap. Tomorrow morning alright?"
"Fine".
Waiting for Gas Board, posting on h2g2, chatting with friends online.
Visitor number one.
My teenage son.
"Hi Mom - can I have the pc? Laura's is broken."
OK, honey, nice to see you too.
Visitor number two.
Gasman!
Fixes boiler, disappears.
Turn on tank, relishing the thought of lovely bath before the Final.
Visitor number three.
My younger daughter....
"Hi Ma! Can I have a go on the pc, just to check my email?"
"Well, I would say yes, but Allan is on it".
Puppy dog eyes....smiley - dog
"Well sort it out between yourselves, I'm off for a bath".
12 noon - settled down alone to watch the best sporting event of the year.
Spotted the Aussie cricketerssmiley - yuksmiley - grrin the crowd and **smiley - bleep**

Supporting Goran, luckily the support at the Centre Court was about 50/50, as everybody who wasn't Australian seemed to be supporting Goran.smiley - smiley
Absolutely brilliantsmiley - racket1for 3 solid hours, nerve wracking double-faults followed by fantastic ACEssmiley - winkeye
3pm, visitor number four.
Even daughter had left the computer to come see what all the racket was aboutsmiley - winkeyewell it WAS the 5th set and the games WERE going with serve, it would've only taken ONE mistake and it would have been curtains...
In comes Lynda my friend, always a welcome visitor, but I barely acknowledged her.
"Oh, you watch your tennis, girl, I'll have a chat with my other girl".
So I had to watch the end with them yakking but she did keep asking me questions, and then laughing that I was ignoring her when I didn't answer. Well how can you talk when you are holding your breath?
smiley - erm
Well finally Goran won to rapturous applause and me dancing around the room.smiley - magic
I don't care what I looked like, I can't help being a passionate person!
Oh well, it's over for another year.
Isn't it strange how your priorities change?
I've never missed Wimbledon in many, many years.
If you'd have told me two years ago that I would have missed a good chunk of this year's event, to go traipsing off to London to NOT watch tennis, but to meet people from a website I belong to, I'd have laughed in your face.

Well... I know that Wowbagger and Linus were discussing the possibility... haven't you guys got an Aussie Researchers Club in here? If not, maybe you should form one first, then start to argue about which small piece of that vast land you could hold a meeting!
I'll publicise it in The Post of course! smiley - ok
