... we always have a bottle of champage smiley - bubbly in the fridge because. Occasions. (and as they say, sometimes the occasion is having smiley - bubbly in the fridge)

I recently took an exam (2nd year OU economics) and it was horrible. The whole course was horrible, the subject is fab but the course was horribly. It made me smiley - wah. A lot. and seriously reconsider doing a degree. I don't need one, I won't be able to do anything special with a PPE degree at my age. But anyway.

Usually I am really good at learning for exams - not so hot on coursework, but exams are my forte. I can cram with the best of them.

But this one had me stumped. Nothing was sticking. I couldn't get a handle on the diagrams, couldn't get my brain around some of the theory and as for the formulae - forget it.

so it came as rather a surprise to find that I'd scored a 2 in the exam, a 2 in the coursework (well, that wasn't a surprise, I knew it already) which means I have a 2 overall (2.2 in normal uni speak)

so I am extremely smiley - boing and am drinking smiley - bubbly

I'm thinking of giving up on my OU degree. Like you, there's not much I can do with it at my age, and it stopped being enjoyable during my last unit (which I dropped out of). And that's without exams.

Anyhow, I must stop fooling around. I won't mess with your two-two!smiley - winkeyesmiley - tongueout

can you take time off it, CD? or change your path (I guess you are, like me, on TA and have to do a course a year to keep the old pricing)

I'm only doing it for fun and for the most part, even that last course, has been a lot of fun. I love the 3 subjects I'm doing and I really like reading around the subject (even though the OU seems to hate that) and I have met some fantastic new people.

so onwards and upwards for me, but I totally get it when people lose their motivation and/or mojo. smiley - hug

Knew you had it in you. Hope the girls realise what this means. I don't doubt that they (and smiley - chef) are proud of you.

Nearly as proud as we are.

I like the taste of 'poo, but it's the only drink that gives me a hangover while I'm still drunk from it, so on the rare occasions I do drink it I stick to one glass.

I believe John Mortimer used to drink a glass first thing in the morning when he got up, the way I drink a smiley - teasmiley - online2long

it is my favouritest drink in the whole world and as a result we always have a bottle of it in the fridge.

Cracked open a philosophy book today. I think I'm going to enjoy this.

If I could afford it, there would be no other wine in my fridge.
For my sixtieth birthday, I took over a bar in Hong Kong and supplied champagne, good malt whisky and orange juice. Anyone wanting anything else had to buy it themselves. Snacks came from four local restaurants. Neither they nor the bar still exist in that incarnation, but it WAS over 10 years ago.
Philosophy eh? I took it as a subsid at Uni over 50 years ago and loved it (except for Logic which I didn't really understand until about ten years ago, when I had to mug it up to teach it. Talk about "Those who can't, teach" smiley - starsmiley - star

Calling champagne "shampoo" is a cute term. Shortening that to "'poo" can result very unfurtunate phrases. smiley - laugh

True smiley - biggrin Although it is (used to be?) fairly common, at least in London, perhaps across the UK, and so doesn't result in too much smiley - bigeyes, smiley - huh or smiley - yuk

really, they called it 'poo'?

WS I'm really looking forward to philosophy. I absolutely loved politics, and hated the economics module which disappointed me greatly because I love the subject. I've picked up a few books, and my course book, so I'll start reading up on it soon

Yeah. Calling it shampoo, then shortening it to 'poo used to be pretty common. It's probably an 80s/90s thing, like shortening nightmare to 'mare. Or saying that you're pants at doing something. I remember hearing all three of those a lot before I left the shores of Blighty.
