There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Ah, Babycham. A triumph of marketing over substance. Take a product not many people knew existed (pear cider, aka perry), package it in small, single-serving bottles, make it extra bubbly, give it an image of faux sophistication by adding the word 'champagne' (for which I believe they were sued by the French) and a heavy advertising campaign, especially at Christmas, so that it becomes one of those well-loved brands that are ingrained in the popular culture of the nation.

I love old TV ads, and the Babycham commercials from the 60s and 70s are among my favourites.

Babycham was my preferred drink throughout sixth form and uni. But I generally only drink it at Christmas now.

smiley - bubbly Very well done, Sho!

In my later teen years I (briefly) went out with a girl who drank brandy and Babycham. Although it was a bit heavy on the wallet I thought she must be the height of sophistication and elegance smiley - biggrin

(when pregnant with #1 I was [illegally] fired. So I had to sign on which is a whole other story. At the same time I had to renew my residency permit - I was very visibly pregnant - and the Beamtin just gave me a withering look and said "unemployed? You know your baby won't be German just because it's born here"

to which the only reply could be (equally witheringly delivered) "thank goodness for that")

I was born in Germany but I was never in any danger of becoming a German - but I've learned to accept the fact that my past is chequered - to say the very least smiley - laugh

Oh, I was just reminded of the time I forgot my wallet on the train. As soon as I had realized it I rushed to the station in the vain hope that somebody had delivered it to the lost and found

Guess what, someone had! Everything was there: Cash, driver's license, train card, you name it

"The person finding and delivering it was a foreigner, would you believe it", said the lady behind the counter.

And I answered something like what you said smiley - biggrin

Of course I should have said "Yeah, that's just like us foreigners roll" smiley - laugh
