Sho - employed again!

Not another "happy new year" convo - but just to note that I have made the switch from Classic Goo to the new Plinymajig.

So far so good smiley - cheers

I am very glad you move to Pliny! And the other skins *will* come!

I've changed, too - and I am a staunch Goo-ite, like Sho.

Albeit only on my mobile phone, because Goo is white-on-white there, and there is no "My Space" button in Alabaster. The main problem I have with the new Pliny - the old one, too - is that you can't tell if a post is the last in the thread.

If you use not the new "my conversations", but the one via "my space" and then "conversations" I think you can see if there are posts after your response or not? Or do I misunderstand?

I think it's because you've got the right hand parenthesis attached to the link you posted Milla?

*goes on and on*
On the second page of Conversations for my space:

Conversation Title: What can we blame 2legs for? [18291](The total number of posts is in brackets.)
Unread: 711
Latest Post(when I last posted): Aug 30, 2012
Latest Reply: 21 Hours Ago (So I can see if there are replies after my latest one.)

If there are unread posts, there is a number in that column, and also the background changes to grey.

Am I missing something else?

No, I just mean that if I'm in a conversation, I can't tell easily if the post I'm reading is the last in the thread. In Goo, I have the tree and the grey blobs at the top right hand corner of the posts which show if there's another post following, and if there's no arrow in the blob, it's the last post, but Pliny just stops. All the posts in Pliny just have the number of the post in the top right hand corner. There are dots at the top and bottom of the page, but they are not easy to decipher (not for me, anyway smiley - senior)

Also, if I am in Post 20 or 40 in Goo, I just have to click on the arrow in the post to get to the next post. In Pliny, I have to navigate those ominous dots at the bottom of the page to get to the next page of posts.

Gnomon - time to move on

The new Pliny system is equally simple, it's just different to what you're used to. If your eyesight is OK you'll have no problems.

If there are no ominous dots at the bottom, then that's all there is to the conversation.

If there are ominous dots, then there should be an arrow pointing right at the end of them like this: >

If the arrow is light grey, then you're on the last page. If it is blue, there are more pages of conversations and you can click on it to go to the next page.

Oh, yeah, I miss the little "pedigree" tree for each post too! I'll put that on the "list" and see where we can go with it. Eventually. Perhaps.

Gnomon - time to move on

Thankfully, h2g2 had already moved on from Goo by the time I joined in 2000. I can't look at Goo as it gives me a headache.

OK, Gnomon - I've looked closer at the dots and I think I've worked out the difference between blue and grey. As you say, it's just a case of getting used to it.

Sho - employed again!

I love Goo. (apart from that flippin' fish - that doesn't go AT ALL) but I was having problems (in a conversation when I first opened it the last messages were garbled, and the reply button was gone, it came back after a refresh but it was slow and annoying)

And since everyone has been working so hard on the new one, which is much more lovely than the old new one. I thought I'd give it a go.

But if it starts to annoy more than goo did, then I'll go back.

I love goo, I find it so much more relaxing to read white type on a dark background.

Baron Grim

I had switched over to Pliny the younger, but I just switched back to Brunel. There's some API issue that fails to render a post if it includes a conversation link. Instead of seeing the post you see the following:

There has been an issue with rendering this post, please contact the editors.

The posts are actually there, they just don't show up in Pliny. So, if you do see the above text and you want to see the actual post, you can switch over to a Ripley skin and see it.

I do like new Pliny and I'll switch back after a few more issues get fixed. I also look forward to some version of the convo navigation thingy, the cardinal point thing that lets you go to a post that the current post is responding to for instance. I also look forward to being able to see the text of the post you're replying to instead of the text to the last post in the conversation.

It's a known problem. Sometimes links work, but mostly not, and in Pliny they show up as that error message you quoted.
I have hope it can be fixed. Probably those blasted API things.
