Tks all. An ovarian cyst burst on Friday morning. I've had 2 babies with no pain relief, but this beat that pain hands down.

I have 4 rather dinky scars now, my first. So at 49 and my first trip to the operating theatre for a real op isn't bad going.

Ow. How long will you be laid up for?

Hopefully home on Monday then a week or so at home.

If it's not too unpalatable, what exactly are the symptoms and how did you know it was an ovarian cyst, and what happened when it broke? Pain, like with appendicitis? Bleeding?

My biggest worry has been an OU essay (in a mock exam stylee) that absolutely had to be done this weekend. But I've done that now. I also have the drain out now so it's not so uncomfortable.

As for symptoms: sudden excruciating pain in the lower abdomen. About where you'd expect contractions, period pain or appendicitis. Abdominal ultrasounds excluded non-gyn related afflictions, so internal scans were ordered and showed a massive amount of fluid in the abdomen. The way I was standing (too uncomfortable to sit down) pretty much decided them that surgery was necessary. At which point my biggest worry was that could only be told via text msg (no phones allowed at work) and he disobeyed my request not to panic, although typically for him he only got the message after lunch when it was all over.

Blimey, Sho, that sounds reet scary.

It's good to hear you got your OU assignment out of the way, although I'm sure you'd have been granted an extension under the circumstances. Right now I'm worrying about my EMA - it;s a Level 2 course and the assignment isn't like anything I've done before. Wish me luck!

Good luck with the rest of your course. Treat yourself to lots of and while you recuperate.

It's not my best essay but it will do. I'll let my tutor know about it when I get home. Good luck with the EMA, CD, I've been surprised at the the differences between my l1 and l2 courses.

Sho, I am so sorry, but best it is all over now. Make sure you DO rest though, there is nothing that can't wait till you are recovered. If I had anything like that, the minute I stood up, I was considered to be better and all help ceased
