Sho - employed again!

so signed up for it as it seemed the only way I was ever going to find out what it is and how (haha) it works. Sort of.

Followed the h2g2 thingy and found they have tweeted my Spinach thing.

They've approved it quite a lot since I created my account. It's now easier to see what tweet a reply is to, which is great, as it often takes me a week to find a reply, and by then I've forgotten what it was to. smiley - senior

And you can now 'show media', so if somebody posts a link to a blog post or photo you can see the post on your twitter page.

I'm @SheonaG if anyone is interested...

I know about the @ - if I have it right, if you want to tweet to person/s directly you put that at the start of the tweet and they see it as "to" them.

the # is a little more difficult. I guess that when something is trending a lot of people are writing about it, and the # makes the word into a link so that you can click it and see what people are saying.

What isn't clear to me is how you can find a # about a particular subject (I saw some discussion on the Manchester meet page about picking a #tag for that) and make sure you're using the same one as everyone else?

Also what isn't clear for me is if there is a sort of Twitter front page with trends or whatevers on it?

But it seems to be pretty straightforward apart from not knowing if an account is really that person or not (in the case of famous persons)

Oh and what does the little blue circle with a white tick inside it mean next to some names (like the Dalai Lama - I'm guessing that it means they are 'most popular' or something)

The blue tick means Twitter has verified them as being that person. Although they don't always get it right (hehe Murdoch) and I believe money is involved somewhere (advertising or a flat out payment I can't remember).

On the homepage, there's a box with the trends, and you can choose to see which location you want to see the # trending for. If you click on the hashtag links in red, it takes you to the page which contain the latest tweets which include that trend.

Not very good at explaining - I've just been doing it by trial and error.

Can you see anywhere on your Twitter screen something that says "# discover"?

If you click on that you can see what the current trending tags are, as well as searching for one yourself.

Or, if you read someone else's tweets, and they have included a hashtag, just click on that to see every other tweet with that hashtag.

I'll go try something for you to click on....

thanks smiley - drool

I see the Brian Cox ones because his Twitter and Facebook are connected - I also see Ferretbadger's #tags when he updates via tweetdeck so I'm sort of getting the hang of those.

Getting there slowly... I even managed to get it on my mobile phone so I'm well on the way

Ah, why I love twitter:

Firstly, Richard Osman's ongoing world cup of crisps (though daylight robbery for Tayto Cheese'n'onion in the opening stages, I have to say!)

Secondly, have found that the UK Eurovision entry will be announced later today, and yes there's a Twitter account. And related to that, and following the news that the mighty Jedward will be representing Oireland (again...), found a tweet from the lads themsleves saying that they've renamed the host country EDzerbaiJOHN. Hahahahaha.

We do need a smiley, don't we?

Thirdly, have just followed a local traffic report, which will hopefull help me choose the best route home each day, rather than being stuck in a jam on the Westlink.
