Acceptable abortions?

Post 1

Romans 9

I know I'm jumping into this "conversation" quite late, but do you truly believe it's acceptable to abort a baby because of the circumstances surrounding his/her birth--namely that he/she was a product of rape? Also, there is a very great danger in permitting disabilities to be a reason to allow abortion--there have been countless incidents wherein non life-threatening conditions (Downs Syndrome, for example) have been used to justify aborting a baby.

nope.

There are no acceptable reasons for abortion. A murder is a murder. In the case of rape one wrong thing done should not justify another. Another life is placed in the womans care, should she have the right to take that life? So what if she didn't want the responsibility, or if it was forced on her, this does not give a right to murder.

I totally agree with you. I don't believe that there's any acceptable reason for an abortion either. It's nice to find another person that thinks the same way--sometimes it seems as if there's no one else out there willing to stand up for the sanctity of life.

Deep joy! we all agree then its OK to condemn a poor woman attacked in the most vile way and impregnated with the seed of some evil scum who doesn't care a damn
So Romans.. the pro life Christian Moral "I'm all right I've never been there jack" suits you does it. Good lord I hope you never get raped then.

What rubbish, let's put this in context shall we. I have a daughter with DS,I'm a veggie, and I abhor the idea of abortion for ANY reason. but STILL I will not condmen anyone who has an abortion, so why that do you think? Simple. I have no right to stand in judgement on anyone when it comes to the sanctity of their body and I venture nor do any of YOU. The "Abortion is murder" argument leads to "well lets kill the murderers" argument, pro life becomes murder itself.. life's not perfect DEAL with it

You are! You are condemning some poor woman to give birth!
I quote you "There are no acceptable reasons for abortion. A murder is a murder. In the case of rape one wrong thing done should not justify another. Another life is placed in the womans care, should she have the right to take that life?"

Pretty damning in my view. I repeat none one of you have the right to sit in judgment on anyone else on this matter. God forbid you ever get raped and are faced with this. But then again you are most likely Christian and male, so no problem for you then is it?

You think I LIKE abortion? I abhor it, but I am no more able to judge a woman for making that decision, than I am able to sit on a jury and convict someone knowing they will go to the chair or the gallows.

I totally disagree. If I were to become pregnent I would not hesitate to have an abortion. I am a very poor person indeed, and I have no parthner. i have many aspirations for my life, and do intend on having children eventually. I hope that when I do have children I can give them everything i missed out on as a child because my parents were poor.

Man has a fundemental right to life. The 3 major derivates of the right to life are:
-The right to property: the right to gain, keep, and dispose of material values.
-The right to the pursuit of happiness: the right to live for one's own sake and fuffilment.
-The right to liberty: the right to think and choose and act in accordance with one’s judgment.

If the government veto's the right to abortion, it is violating the woman's right to liberty: the government is taking away her choice to think and choose and act in accordance with her judgment on a part of her own body. If the government veto's a woman's right to abortion, they are violating her right to liberty, and in doing that, her own right to life. A fetus is not a person - it is a part of a woman's body; therefore it is not an individual.

Also:

The purpose of the government is to protect invdividual rights. This entails only three govenmental functions:
-The police: to protect men from criminals.
-The armed forces: to protect men from foreign invaders.
-The law courts: to settle disputes among men.

Nowhere in this list does it say that it is the government's right to violate a woman's right to life - and therefore individual rights in general.

In summary:
The government is violating individual rights and the right to life in not giving women the right to abortion.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
