The problem with this is that there is only one "newbie" at a time.
DE, unless you get someone else to write an entry for you, there is almost no point in having your alter ego write one. Albeit this is said with hindsight, but your writing style is obvious a mile away.
The trouble is the rules force the "newbies" to behave as new people wouldn't, usually. Its unnatural, and in a way you only have to look for the "newbie" who's following the rules to find the quarry.

It does sound a bit of a probem, perhaps some ground work needs to be done so that the fox isn't such a newbie.

I thought writing a guide entry would throw you all of the scent as alter egos rarely do. I didn't think of writing style.
We could change the rules, lots of options, two here:
How about that the quarry has to be a newbie set up on the day of the start of the chase and has to write an introduction and a journal entry on the first day. They have to post to just one of the major community pages though not restricted to a busy forum.
Alternatively we keep the rules similar to what they are but change so that they have to make more than three postings a day, no restrictions but have to at some stage have participated in a select number of forums.
Any thoughts?

Perhaps people should start the quarry a few weeks ahead of time, post in a few forums and try get above suspicion. This would widen the field of search somewhat.

I don't know necessarily about logging on that day....
personally I think it would be good if there was more than one quarry at once, to even things up slightly.
More than three postings but not necessarily in popular places seems good.

I thin people will have to sort it out themselves. The point is that you will want to be found, just not too quickly.

I think that setting up the researcher in advance, but no more than a week in advance, so that the new tag goes but they aren't old, and allowed to post no more than n posts a day until they are "on the run" and then another set of rules when on the run may help
