Because of something that happened on another BBC messageboard, I'm now in pre-mod even on hootoo. I though hootoo maintained a kind of independence from the rest of the BBC network and had greater local freedom to decide who it wanted to admit and exclude? I heard battles have been fought about this in the past. But evidently not.

this is a copy of the posting to my journal - which I cannot now post to until a mod has approved of my comments! Even on my journal space??? I cannot post to my journal until a mod has approved of it?

*********************

I have just discovered that my premodding now extends to Hootoo, an area which I thought was moderated more lightly and sensibly than the rest of the BBC forums and where in the past the Editors and mods have fought for a greater degree of editorial freedom and liberalism - my general impression is that this is generally respected and hardly ever abused here by anyone.

Having only ever been modded ONCE on hootoo - and that was over a technicality, where I inadvertantly contravened the "no posting in "foreign" languages rule by posting in Welsh (this on a conversation thread to do whether or not Welsh is an important language in the 21st century, btw) - may I ask who I have annoyed or offended on this conversation forum?

You're really taking the michael now and I really don't like this. Who made this decision and to whom can I complain?

Perhaps another case of not so much "who you know" as "who hates you" and what their degree of clout is. Eg especially considering the sub-sites to which you've been posting.

"This Posting is currently queued for moderation, and will be visible as soon as a member of our Moderation Team has approved it (assuming it doesn't contravene the House Rules). The Researcher who posted it is currently being pre-moderated, so all new Postings they make must be checked before they become visible.

You can find out more about moderation on h2g2 here. "

"here" doesn't make sense or it's out of date.

Pre-mod is NOT "reactive moderation". If reactive moderation were in force here, I would still be able to post freely and any infringements should be followed through after I post?

And I am being punished on hootoo because of postings that were not made on the hootoo boards. This is not right or correct. The entry on "pre-moderation" specifically states that breaches of hootoo's house rules may be countered by placing the researcher into pre-mod status. But I have not broken hootoo's house rules, as the perceived offence - which I dispute - relates to postings on the PoV messageboards elsewhere in the BBC system.

So common sense would imply that I should be fully reinstated here?

Hi Sef

Thanks for taking the trouble to look at the threads I was posting to... it did occur to me that I might have annoyed two BBC presenters who seem to have influence and this could be a result!

I mean, I start a thread, about a presenter who can be engaging and delightful and who I do quite like, but who seems to have a depressing tendency to open her mouth and put her foot in it... this snowballs, national newspapers take it up, and quote extensively from the messageboards, including my postings. (Mortifyingly, one of the national papers picking up the story is the rabidly anti-BBC "Daily Mail" which will seize on any excuse to go BBc-bashing). The BBC is then forced to apologise for this presenter's verbal lapse. And all I ever said was "----- ------- should take more care about what she says, as it could be misunderstood". I didn't want to see her get crucified!

But with the other Radio Two presenter, it got more personal than that (see Journal)...

I wondered if people close to either of these could have decided to seek revenge and get me premodded - even though most of my original comments about them are still there...

If I stay in premod any much longer, though, I might actually go to the "Daily Mail" and ask if they want a follow-up story!

Something along the lines of

"I started the thread about ----- ------- which you quoted from last week. As a result of staring the thread which your paper quoted, I have had my access to BBC mesageboards restricted to a situation where I cannot post comment until a BBC employee has approved of it first. I consider these things are related.
I also had issues with ------- ----- and he took the p out of a complaint I made about his show, live, on air, which I consider to be absolutely unprofessional behaviour on his part. Would this make a good story for you? "

But this is supping with the devil... use a long spoon....
