Man! I think that is a great place for all the reasons described.
My wife and I recently went to London for the first time in our lives. While I wanted to feed the pigeons in Trafalgfar Square(nice pigeons not like the ones in central park in NYC with an attitude my wife calls them rats with wings) my beloved wanted to do all the turistic crap which I have seen many times on the educational television chanels. Your village sounds to me like the place to go next time. Maybe my wife will decide to stay home.
