I think that is a wonderful idea not allowing these to be used in journals and conversations. The first reason, as I am sure the founders were aware of, is that it would clutter up and make the entries unreadable. Whether or not you did notice this, I congratulate your good decision, or dumb luck, respectively.
Another, and I personally think more important reason for not enabling these is that it takes away the personal feel that these entries inevitably have, but which guide entries need not. Overall, a wise choice. +)
