I am a self confessed adict to most forms of fantasy and sci-fi adventure: I play- Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer
Quest, Gorkamorka and Magic: the gathering.
I Watch- Startrekk in all its forms, Xena, Buffy,
Red Dwarf and The X-files
I go to- A Trekkie club and Golden Deamon
I read- Any fantasy books I can get my hands, most
Sci-fi books and all GW magazines (exept warhammer monthly)
I write- lots of sci-fi stories (which never
get finished), the occasional fantasy story (which
is always rubish), magazine articles (which somtimes
get puplished) and poems (but I don't like anybody
hearing them!)
All this, and I'm only 14
So if any one wants to descuss any of these aspects then my e-mail adress is [email protected] and the names Jon.

This is his sister, and I think this makes him sound interesting, he is not! as you can see he cannot even spell 'star trek' correctly, as for the poems he has never mentioned them. At least he likes sci-fi.

oh yes - something wicked this way comes rocked - i haven't read the whole of needful things by stephen king, but i got far enough in to get suspicious that it was a rip off, so i chucked it.
his short stories are good too - and who could go past farenheit 451 - the movie was rather odd though.
sorry to butt in there

I have heard of Tanith Lee, I've been considering seeing what her books are like. Just got so many books on the go at the moment, trying to finish the latest Terry Goodkind one. Hopefully, Katharine Kerr will write some more fantasy soon - her style is quite unique.

tanith's a bit odd - i really like her, but i'm the only person i know who does - if you can find a copy of don't bite the sun/drinking sapphire wine you are incredibly lucky because IMHO that is her best, but it's virtually impossible to get over here. i managed to find a copy second hand but i've only seen it once more in the last three years of trawling the second hand shops. her more recent stuff is good too - eg A Heroine of the World, Reigning Cats and Dogs. Some of her early stuff is quite out there, but sometimes she doesn't quite carry the endings off well eg Birthgrave.
I quite like Katherine Kerr too, but i found her sci-fi better than her fantasy (although i couldn't put down the first two books of the Deverry series)- Freezeframes is great. Haven't started Terry Goodkind yet, but i have a couple of his books waiting until i can find a cheap copy of Wizard's First Rule.

I read Temple of the four winds before I read Wizards First Rule. It's about the only time I haven't had a spare book to go onto.
I haven't read Katharine Kerrs Sci-fi yet, although I like Sci-fi if there is a fantasy book around I'll always read that in preference. If you like the celtic side of fantasy try Steven Lawhead. Must admit I like David Eddings' writing as well.

yep i'm a david eddings fan too (why is it so unfashionable to say that now? although of course he's getting pretty repititive now - he's got the skill why doesn't he just write something new? or should i say "they've" got the skill?)
been meaning to try lawhead for ages - he used to be quite hard to get here but they've just rereleased a whole lot of stuff so that's good.
went to borders today for the first time - it's just opened in nz for the first time and has a MASSIVE range, on first look - but when you look a little deeper a lot of the quantity is made up through having three different covers for the same book because they're parallel importing so much. (american covers are very ugly) still a very big range, but the prices are about the same as the chain i work for (there's really only one book chain in nz, it's all owned by the same people) - they still failed the crucial test: no copies of the moon is a harsh mistress (which last time i tried to order it was out-of-print in nz and would have been imported for me taking three months).

The prices for books in NZ were abit ridiculous, fortunately whenever I knew someone was coming over I'd give them a list of books to bring over.

Lawhead has moved slightly away from mythology into history, I thought it might be a bit dodgey but it actually works rather well.
I think David & Leah Eddings are working on the principle, if it isn't broken - why fix it? Which is a real shame as they are extremely good. Hopefully, they find this site it might give them the kick they need to write something new.

have you read high hunt? i've only ever found a copy of it once (second hand) and i'm very fussy about how much i pay for my second hand books and it was a bit pricey so i didn't buy it.
do you read any feist? if you like eddings you oughta love him.

I haven't read High Hunt yet, the list of books is endless (at the moment). Have to agree feist is rather good, I've all the older stuff and one of the newer series, and of course the book based on the pc game (he's got another new one out now).
I tend to throw my money away and buy new books(but they are quite a bit cheaper over here), rather than second hand. Unfortunately, I have shelves and boxes packed with books.
Have you read any Jordan, Modesit or JV Jones? They're more annoying than interesting, especially Jordan how many books do you need to write for what should have been a trilogy. *rant*
