A Conversation for Getting to the Isle of Wight, England, UK

As someone who often goes to the Isle of Wight - at least 6 times a year, I am always upset by the huge cost of taking a car over. It can cost up to £70. As my wife often says - 'I just want to get across, I don't want to buy the boat'. We often have conversations about when it was cost £100 to get over.

On the Island we say taht it is, mile for mile, the most expensive stretch of water in the world. I don't know if that's true, but certianly I've never come across anything more expensive - it's often cheaper to go to France. I agree - it's completely rediculous.
The Ferry companies, though, earn enough money on the first two ferries each day to run the rest of the ferries and pay the workers. All the money for tickets on the other ferries of the day is 100% profit for the company - and people wonder why most Island drivers have never driven on the mainland!
