A Conversation for Dave Allen - Comedian

I couldn't believe my ears when 10 min. ago I heard this very familiar voice coming from my TV-set - Dave Allen's voice, obviously. Danish television ran the Dave Allen Show years and years ago and there are many of us who remember them and him very well and we have all been hoping that the shows would air again. Personally, I've been searching high and low for this guy ever since I came on-line 4-5 years ago, but never with any success. I must admit, that I actually thought he must have passed on at a very young age, seeing as there had been absolutely no news whatsoever about him for the last 25 years (in Denmark at least). And then I heard that voice again, and I cannot describe what a treat that was. It hit me that this web-site says something about a health-scare due to cigarettes and - what was it - liqueur of some sort, 'cause that was exactly what was on my mind when wondering why I could find nothing on this man. I am happy to learn that he is alive and kicking! Tonight there will be a documentary on Danish TV about "Feet of Flames" and it was the trailer for this program that I happened to overhear. Dave Allen said something or other about Irish folk-dancing etc. It was such an immense thrill to see that man again, and I can't wait to see the whole documentary just so that I can get that old "Dave-Allen-sensation" again. I was very young when watching his shows (I'm 36 now) but I did so enjoy his humour and have never since experienced a comedian of his format - he is absolutely incredible, and I guess that the only other entertainer (if you can call him that) that makes me laugh as long and hard as Dave did, is Terry Wogan - not that they are comparable. Well - this isn't much of a discussion, I must admit, but finally finding something on the internet about Dave Allen just thrilled me to bits, and I am hoping that Dave Allen himself might at some point access this web-site so that he can see how appreciated he is and that he has a lot of dedicated fans i Denmark who are just waiting for a re-run of the old Dave Allens shows. Thanks for a million laughs Dave!
Sorry about this looong message - I just had to get it all out.
My very very best to Dave Allen.

My god someone else who fondly remembers Dave Allen (my mother used to get him mixed up with Alan Alan the escapiologist, that would have been interesting to see) I used to love his off beat sense of humour and remember feeling slightly guilty about laughing at some of his religious jokes. i remember him giving an interview once, the interviewer asked how he'd lost the end of his finger. Dave said his father was cutting wood and he put his hand on a stump, he thought his dad wouldn't chop, and his dad thought he'd move his hand. It doesn't look that funny written down but when he told it I was in hysterics.

I was young when the local PBS channel carried the Dave Allen At Large comedy show. I miss that show sooo much. Really wish some channel here in the US would carry it again.

You have said exactly how I feel. How can you not love a man who makes you laugh so much. I know there were times that I laughed so hard I cried. He never seemed to take anything seriously. I, too am glad to hear he is still alive and I wish he could know just how much he impressed our young and eager minds. As far as I am concered there are few comedians that are as good or will be as good as Dave Allen. Dave, if you ever read this know we love you and may the Pope send you his blessings.
