A Conversation for Some Thoughts on Time

Time not Relative?

"Time is not relative, but everyone has their own opinion as to what time it is. "

Thats a contradiction in itself. You look at your watch it says its 12:00 its time for lunch you think. Its 12:00, but the guy in the cubicle next to you looks at his watch and it says 11:45, almost time for lunch he thinks, to him its 11:45. Time is relative. There is no real time, its just a means for us to explain the passing of events.

Yeah, I agree. Time is just an illution, made by us, made for us.
If time was a real thing, maybe it would be able to travel in it.

It's a perceptional thing. Everyone perceives time in relation to their surroundings. My surrounding, my clock, says 1:24 am. Someone else's says 5 pm. The problem becomes that while we're going around arguing about how we perceive it, elsewhere there's a universal standard, and no one can read the bloody thing. So we all just sort of guess, relating our perceptions of time to be correct.

It's not correct though. It's 1 am.smiley - winkeye

Time is the scientific nomenclature for the surprisingly sudden onrush of death... it's 20:56.

If time is not relative, what is?

Newton defined space and time as absolute; time, he said, flows equably of itself.

Berkeley challenged this, pointing out that time with nothing occurring in it could not be measured.
