A Conversation for Euchre - the Card Game

Thanks so much for this entry.
Where I've learned Euchre here in Canada, it's always been a rule that if your partner is the dealer and you order him/her up, you have to go alone. I can't say I'm a big fan of this rule, as it seems a bit arbitrary and has stood in the way of more that one good hand that wasn't quite good enough to go alone, but it seems fairly universal here.
Any insight as to where this comes from or the reasoning behind it?

if you think about it, telling your partner to pick it up almost gives an unfair advantage as you know your partner can help you out... this rule was designed for better competition... it's a wicked game... the getting 4 points for a 5 trick euche is new to me as well... i'll have to discuss that with the canadians i play the game with... haha
