I don't know - I think there's a certain snobbery amongst us Hokkien speakers; they tend to look down on the Cantonese. In turn, Penang Hokkien speakers firmly believe that Singapore's brand of the dialect is the more vulgar of the two... ;o)

The majority tend to oppress the minority; after a lifetime in this Godforsaken country and earth I've learnt that the hard way. Go out on the street and shout KNNBCCB to no one in particular and you'd get middle fingers from more than half the people; out of these 50%, 48% are genuine Hokkien speakers, 1% are Cantonese who have been scolded that vulgarity often enough to comprehend it and the other 1% who think you look stupid.
