h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I have just noticed that it is over 3 months since I wrote a journal entry and so I have decided to amend that immediately.

I have killed off all but three of the office sea monkeys. Don't ask me how I did it... but I managed it somehow. They just all got sick and died and I have yet to work out how to get all the little corpses out of the bottom of the aquarium type thing. The good news is that one of the survivors appears to be carrying eggs. So fingers crossed...

Other then that I am preparing to go on holiday and desperately planning how I can pack everything I have got to do into one weekend. High up on the list must be taking the Morris Minor out as it hasn't had a run in weeks. Mainly because I was away last weekend, the weekend before Mum's company car broke down in the drive and I have been too knackered in the evenings. But I must say that when we are out together, it does look soooo good that everyone stops and stares!

To get the little corpses out you can either change the water in the tank in the same way you do for goldfish, or you can do it the lazy but fairly disgusting way of sucking them up through a straw and then hoping that you can stop sucking and get your finger on the top of the straw before they go into your mouth. Ughhh...

Mina do you know about sea monkeys then - I have two left! and one appears to be growing testicles.... are these eggs perchance?

I only know about them because my friend's daughter had some.
I'd assume the testicles are eggs, especially if the sea monkeys have been swimming rather closely recently. I'm not sure why they die either, but I would recommend not leaving them on a windowsill, as when summer arrives unexpectedly they tend to cook.
If they are like fish it's a good idea to feed them little and often so that food doesn't go to waste and rot in the tank, which might not help.

sea monkeys? you know, i always wanted those when i was young... i never got them, though. i think i might get some when i go to college, just so my roommate thinks i'm crazy...

I had mine quite a while... strange how you can get attached to what are basically fish food. Tried buying a pot of ant's eggs but it wasn't the same (especially when taking it for a walk... though that was difficult with the Sea-Monkeys too come to think of it.).

If you lived over here in Germany, a kid's comic called "Löwenzahn" is giving them as a FREE GIFT this week... If only you'd told me earlier, I'd have got you a copy! (as close to a S-M as I could get.)
