the body shows the referrer

Okay, having read the other page, I don't care if you know my isp (although you don't) and stuff, I don't even mind you taking them down without asking me, but I wouldn't have posted in this forum 'cause it'll probably be around for ages.
Privacy? you breached mine.

Sorry Joanna, I should have been more clear over what that link would do.
It is in fact possible to get the i.p. adress/hostname of computers (and therefore the isp) that visit the page but I decided aginst doing that as I regard it as a serious invasion of privacy,
however this kind of information is being collected from you by every h2g2 page you visit thanks to doubleclick.net the people who supply the banner ads

I'm quite happy for them to know my ISP, what I object to is posting in a thread where I wouldn't have posted, not because I care about whether or not doubleclick know about my isp or not. I'm never going to buy anything through them, and don't particularly lose out by them advertising to me because I'm sure by now I've learned not to fixate on the banner, and I have sufficient restraint not to click the adds anyhow. What I'm trying to say is their collecting data on me is painless to me.
But I've the feeling that this forum is going to *keep* coming up on my top 25, in the way of things I probably should pay attention to.
I posted in the "where are our researchers from" thread, and after 20 weeks it comes back to haunt me. I try not to post in such threads any more, I wouldn't have done in this one.
Thats all.
Probably an overreaction, and I'm sorry for that, too.

I understand what you mean about forums that won't die (I still have nightmares about the 42 themed forums we had early on)
Tomorrow I will:
a) repoint the script to another forum
b) try to think of a better way of executing the script so that people get a warning of what its going to do
c) find some way to automate the forum switching process so it happens after a certain number of posts in the forum

Wonders whether this is a breach of the site terms & conditions ( http://www.h2g2.com/dontpanic.cgi?name=terms )
"You agree not to use the forum to transmit material that is invasive of another's privacy"
A warning what the page is going to do & the requirement to click on the post button would mean the user is consenting - otherwise...

I've disabled the script. Any objections if I remove this thread?
