Of course you can - did I imply otherwise somewhere?
I'm just pleased that through the march I was able to send such a powerful message, which on my own would have gone unheard. And not personally believing in that kind of God, I'm inclined to suggest that just "praying for peace" isn't going to do much - and even if He (or It, or They, depending on your preference ) *does* exist, it's not actually Him (/etc.) that's going to make the decision, it's the politicians.
So my reasoning goes that they're the ones you need to get your message to, not God. And they're not going to hear your prayers, but they might just hear the voices of a million protest marchers...
And as for more peaceful, walking through the streets of a major city in large numbers isn't exactly equivalent to raining down bombs on innocent civillians, is it?
But, yes - by and large I agree with you: be peaceful!

Have you read this?
The loving kindness meditation-How to pray for Peace
If everyone thought more along these lines then this sort of thing wouldn't need to happen. We wouldn't need to go on marches. Sorry, I may sound naive - but there you go. That's probably why I get on better with children.
I'm not going to argue with you

I hadn't read the page when I wrote my last reply - sorry if I jumped to the wrong conclusion on what you meant by "praying" (and by the way, that kind of link won't work in forums - you just have to say "it's at A634312" or some such ).
And now I have read it I certainly agree that it would be good if we could all think positively about each other in the way this encourages us to do.
The problem, however, is that this is a general solution to the general problem of the existence of war. It doesn't stop us needing a specific solution to specific problems that have already arisen as a result of not everyone being enlightened [yet].
So yes, praying for peace will avoid us getting into this mess in the future, but having let it get this far, we can't just hope it will go away.
[And I hope you don't take this as arguing - I enjoy a good debate/discussion, I find it helps you clarify your own thoughts]

this is slightly different i know but related...
why doesnt anyone have a conversation with one of these high up mps. not interiew them. not attack them. discuss why we should go to war. noone actually knows what they really think. they could be told to say all that.

"why doesnt anyone have a conversation with one of these high up mps"
It's a good point, that. I spose the higher up you go, the less likely you are to get a straight answer. Politics is their *job*, and in politics, everything you say is aimed at a certain effect. If you could convince a politician that you weren't representing or informing any kind of group, then you might be able to get all sorts of interesting insights into why they say certain things to certain people. But of course, you wouldn't be allowed to tell anybody, so it wouldn't do much good to the world at large.
As I say, it's a good thought - I'm just trying to think why we *don't* know...

Morning all
Good question but most of them turn out to be self oppinionated idiots with their own agenda's and if your idea's don't match their's then they tend to look at you and treat you as an idiot or at least an uneducated fool. Most of those who go into politic's do so because they have a deep seated need to be and feel important and the power they get from it gives them a buzz,if they were enlightened they wouldn't be in politics mainly because they would not agree with the majority of other politicians or the governments and their actions and would end up resigning or some such action.
The majority are not interested in what you or I want, they run their own programme. If they can use your cause to highlight their own cause then you are useful but otherwise you will be ignored. Its that simple really.
Ignorance is bliss and they choose to ignore alot of issue's but come election time they listen but as the conservatives found out it may be a case of too little too late.

well I have to agree with pally about the politicians they dont want to know what we think & basically they dont give a shit as to what we think or want so its a waste of time even trying to talk to any of them. all they care about is their overgrown egos & salaries.
I also agree with chikki about the power of prayer & meditation its a lot stronger than people realise, I personally pray for world peace at least once a day & I feel so calm & peaceful myself after doing so, try to imagine if 1 person feels this way after praying alone what a mass prayer session feels like........you can actually feel the power for yourself when doing so.........so surely if we can feel it........it must touch others in some way even though they may not realise what they are feeling at that time.
may love & light always be with you
