Elite the best game

I am now aged 25 and have always been a computer addict.since the age of four I have not been able to leave them alone whether for doing work or for entertainment.
But for all the great graphics in games today they lack gameplay. Most new gamers didn't play Elite so are lacking THE benchmark for long lasting playability.
Elite in my book is indeed the game no-one has been able to better.
Fine it had nearly no graphics, but you played it your way.Whether an honest trader (As you always had to start out as) or a bounty hunter or pirate.Indeed being a pirate so feared that even the space police thought twice about taking you on was one of the great satisfactions of the game.(Even if it took you two years to get there!)
A great game ..The game.
Unfortunatley some platforms lost a lot in their conversion from the original BBC Micro version. In fact no they were all a lesser version of the vector graphics three coloured style I had become accustomed to .

I downloaded Elite for an ST emulator I have but I was just dissapointing.

Smug (but nice) Dave

An equally big fan of Elite, I spent a lot of time trying to get a decent version on the Pc. i tried a NES version (pants), a BBC version (agonisingly slow) then hit on 'Elite- the New Kind'. This is a version reverse engineered for the PC from the original code. It just IS the original game(as I remember it anyway) on the PC. You can even choose between the original line graphics and filled in colour versions. The iancgbell website is a good one but I probably couldnt give you a link because someone would remove it anyway. I suggest searching for 'Elite-the new kind' or iancgbell. Incidently, you may want to combine the last word of the last sentance with the word clara, a full stop and the word net consecutively and directly following said original word.

Many, many thanks for that, I too have tried the emulators (even a spectrum one on my Psion 5!) and been dissappointed but this looks great.

15 years plus and my fingers fell onto the keyboad without thinking just got shot up running drugs, but not before taking about 6 or so cops with me.

I'm putting a link on my home page to the site of this cool bit of reverse engineering programming.
