Nightlife in Düsseldorf

OK, the Düsseldorf Altstadt with its Pubs and Clubs is not your idea about a good party, or you just went there on the wrong day. I lived in Düsseldorf for a long time and it was always fun going to the Altstadt. What you didn´t mention was that there are more than a hundred pubs and clubs in less than a squaremile and I suppose that everyone can find a place to have a good party. Especially If you like the Altbier (and believe me it´s getting much better with the second or third one). just have a look around for finding "your" place and ask some people about where to go.
The Rheinturm has as I remember from school something about 230 meters in hight (over all with the huge Antenna and everything).

...and don't forget: the 'Toten Hosen' (famous punkrock band) said about the Altstadt: there would be something like the hugest (in length) counter of the world (in addition of each pubs' one). But Cologne scores here again (it's also a nice-girl-saying): the quality is decisive not the quantity!
The other thing is: Cologne (Bonn also) are 'linksrheinisch', Düsseldorf belongs to the the right hand side of rhine river party. Even within Cologne they got the density between people from both sides of the river. One lives in the quarters on left hand side like Sülz, Kwatier lateng, Belgian Quarter, Ehrenfeld, Nippes! All the clubs are around and the friends as well. There're no needs to cross the river.

I wrote about Düsseldorf if you want to write about Cologne just do it man !
I think this homepage tells enough about the rivality Düsseldorf vs. Cologne and we dont have to discuss this silly problem anymore.

Comprendo! More suppleness is what you asked for, isn't it?!
It's interesting the local a. football (nfl-e) became more popular than local soccer team 'Fortuna', doesn't it?

A question to all you veteran Düsseldorfers out there: does anyone else remember a disco (I was last there about 15 years ago) where you could choose between walking down the steps or going down a slide? Or did I just dream it? (I was probably "tired and emotional" at the time )

Aikim Posted Jun 11, 2000
You didn´t dream ! There was a Discoteque like that but it closed about eight years ago. But the slide is the only thing I am missing, the discoteque was so bad that I even can´t remember the name. It was one of this seventyth style locations, and they played the must disgusting music I ´ve ever heard ...

Sorry Whizjazzky, I am not so much into sports and I really just don´t know what you are talking about !

Well that's a relief! I was beginning to think I was going mad.... it's all coming back to me now, disgusting music, people (mostly guys) dancing with themselves in front of the mirrors, expensive slow warm beer..... but I really miss the slide, it was different, which is presumably why we all went there. I used to go there with my "mates" but actually I only ever really wanted to go in the White Bear or the Auberge (but then, only for the music which you can hear quite well from about 4 blocks away anyway)

The Pub "Auberge" is the best place to go in Duesseldorf. The old rock music is played by old Lps (no CD-player!), the people are very friendly and the wooden furniture makes this rather small pub really comfortable!
Don't miss it if you are ever there! (It's located in the Altstadt, near a Pizza Hut restaurant)

Oh I LOVE that place. Only I don't get in there much nowadays. Sniff. I used to go to the Ox (round the corner from the Zwiebel) but it's closed down now. That was about 12 years ago though!

I´m glad to help you Sho !
Does anyone out there know why all the nice pubs and bars in Duesseldorf are closed today ? I mean they started with my Line Light and the last thing I heard was that they closed the Dschungel... perhaps I am even not up to date. Or what is more important in the end, are there any other new perhaps even better locations for dancing with real music, I mean nothing against computers but I just don´t like this electronic drums.

I think everything is slowly going "down the toilet" music-wise. The Zwiebel used to be ok, and the "White Bear" (don't even know if it is really called that). Mostly Düsseldorf is way too trendy nowadays to play proper music.

Aikim Posted Jun 29, 2000
It´s called "Der weiße Bär" which actually means "The White Bear". I don´t know if I got you right, are you still living in Düsseldorf or was that years ago ? I lived there all my youth untill 8 years ago. But I have still lots of friends there, who unfortunally stay always in the same places like the "Schaukelstühlchen" or the "Uel". So I would be glad to get some new Informations for me and them for the times I stay there visitig them.

There´s not, the american military bases are all in southern germany (we have had the english soldiers in the Rhein-Ruhr-Area) but thank you very much for the information

I don't live in Düsseldorf any more, and I don't go out in the Altstadt at all now (too old, and no babysitter!) but I think the old-style pubs and dancing places are just about gone now. Unless you want to open one (I'd come to that)

There's a good pub in Düsseldorf named McLaughlin's. You find it in the KURZE STRASSE. They show football and rugby. Good place to get pyst(...)! They also use to play Irish music. Hope to meet some of you folks there! Kiss, Steffi

Aikim Posted Jul 4, 2000
Hi Steffi, Ok seems like you´re still going out in the Altstadt - now tell us the special places for dancing and having more fun then ever before, I am getting bored if I stay in pubs the whole night. And I suppose all this english and American guys hanging around here are not very intersted in going to Irish pubs when they stay in Duesseldorf !

Steffi Posted Jul 5, 2000
Aikim, love, I am sorry but I cannot tell you about places to dance... I never went to any. I am a Metal maniac or however one may call it. Maybe they would not even let me get in a disco, for I am tattooed and pierced. Well, the british and american guys sure come to the pub, and usually they even behave! Next to the McLaughlin's there is a place which you could go to. Don't ask me for the name, but people with a passport fom Berlin may get in for free... Sorry, I am the wrong one to give you complete nightlive information.

Aikim Posted Jul 6, 2000
OK, got it, but I really can´t understand why it´s not possible to find a place where people like you and me would like to go for dancing. But actually I have got the same problem in Berlin, so perhaps it´s my problem or the problem of a dying (or long dead ?) Punk Rock Generation and not the problem of a special City. But if you find any new places which are in a way special or extra-individual, please tell me !
