A Conversation for South Street, Philadelphia

The Amazon Bar

Post 1

Last time I was in Philly, got drunk on a floating pontoon moored just off the end of South Street in the River.
Thought it was a marvelous place. It was called the Amazon bar I think. Is it still there? It had a sort of temporary feel to it.

I put it down along with the Cadillac Bar in LA as one the great fun bars I visited on my travels. The best of all was the Peanut Bar in
some down at heel town close to Philly. Not Allentown, but quite close to Hershey Park, might have been Reading.

The most interesting bar I visited was Joe's Sportsman's Lounge in West Chester. A dire dive of a place, with cheap bottled beer
straight out the case, but with local bands playing live and Cockroaches the size of mice. It was an education. But I must confess that I
prefered Rosie O'Gradies, around the corner. I was there the night the Kitchens caught fire and I sat on the pavement with the members
of Life After Elvis drinking beer and watching the local volunteer firemen wander about trying to scrounge free drinks.
