There's a club there on South Street that's now called the Pontiac Grille, but years ago it was called J.C. Dobbs. I never got to find out what the J.C. stood for. John Coltrane? Jesus Christ?

Dear Accidental,
J.C. didn't stand for a darn thing.
Remember stories about how much drugs your ancestors were taking back in the days when Dobbs opened up (we just called it "Dobbs" back then, as in, "Did you see that group, Police, at Dobbs Saturday?")? Well, a year or two before that, some guy had hijacked a plane and gotten away with a few dollars by parachuting out of the plane with it. I believe the name of that fellow was D.B.Cooper. Well, that was who John (no last names to protect the innocent, plus I can't remember), the owner, wanted to name his new bar after. Problem was, nobody realized he hadn't gotten the name right, and for a couple of years, we were all perfectly convinced we were going to the bar "named after that guy who got away with all that money in a plane hijack."
Best wishes
