Lock-ins

What're they all about?
A couple of the pubs back home do this, where they lock out new customers at 11, but let you stay in and keep purchasing alcohol.
I've heard it's illegal... but plenty of pubs seem to do it. I do miss lock-ins at the George since I moved to uni

A pub I worked in was next to the local Police Station, and as such had always had a tradition of lock-ins. My boss used to be very canny due to advice from the neighbours, he never rang in money for the drinks, used to buy the first round himself, and kept the lights nearest the main road off. Apparently, the law states that you can give alcohol away but not sell it, and the bar reverted to being my boss's front room after opening hours! But then my boss was a very talented LandlordAlan!!
