Yes, this one's kaput. smiley - smiley

I don't think faith is healthy. I think belief should be based on at least some sort of fact or verifiable thing. In fact, I don't even like belief. smiley - tongueout How about just developing an understanding?

In the strange absence of fearless leader, I announce the opening of Business Forum XI, in which we continue this discussion. I'm sure the esteemed CS will be allong shortly to join. You can check out the Foundation Page for the forum, or just hop this handy link: http://www.h2g2.com/F32217?thread=66792&post=493342 so long as it works. -jb

Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit

You rang?

The new programming for H2G2 has arrived, and it is Good. Since you can now return to a conversation exactly where you left off, it seems to me that the role of thread management can be redefined. I would hate to end this current conversation, because I find it quite fascinating, even if I haven't had much to add to it. I like to argue faith, too, but isn't there more to freethought than that? Furthermore, it has been my analysis recently that these business forums have been cyclical. A new forum opens up, and it splutters around for a bit, with people making random comments. Then, a week later, it begins to come to life, as we finally find something to talk about. This conversation runs lively and wild, fills up the forum, until I am forced to open another, which quickly kills off the previous discussion.

Therefore, I suggest we begin a sort of library of conversations, each dedicated to a specific area that you would like to discuss. We can have various specialized areas, as well as this general thread. People can bookmark the conversations that may appeal to them, and post as they desire. And forums can run as long as they please, without any intervention from me, which is A Good Thing. Has anyone noticed how lazy I am? smiley - tongueout

And since this is a democratic sort of area, those conversations can be on whatever you like. Do you want a fervent reason vs religion discourse? Would you like to continue the atheism vs agnosticism debate? Open the forum, and interested people will come along. You can even mention your new forum and its purpose in the general thread to draw attention to it, just as we've done in the past with new articles and such. As topics drift, the drift can be maintained, while a new thread rededicated to the main theme can be opened up. It's a freethinker's forum we have here, ladies and gentlemen, and free it shall finally be! Vive la H2G2 programmers!
