That is exactly what I´m thinking of:
Good Looks,
+ talent in Management
+ Will, Dedication, etc.
------------------------
Front pages.
But most of it is still good looks, if you ask me, which is responsible for men being attracted bythis kind of women.
It´s better than the MOMMA Typ, they had themselves.
(Ever heard this song: I find you attractive - do you want to go to bed with me? The annacronism is a women singing an absolute male text!)
I do not believe, that men realy respect women in these positions because of their capablities. It must be damn: most women have to learn to be like men to get where they want to be, instead of men learning to integrate their positive feminin sides, and stop producing the kind of bullshit they are coming up with (I bet that Christ-God-Spirit thingy of the christians was a male idea)
To my regret I´ve got the impression, that emancipation is coming to a bit of a halt.(Perticullarly eMANcepation).
I just found another reason for women on the backdraw: They get onto the frontpages, because it still is exotic for a woman to get one of the topjobs. It´s been far to long, that the patriarchal system of the church has been blocking our minds concerning our male view on women, as to be significantly changed through 30-90 Years of women liberation movements (Look at Africa, what they do to girls, circumcising them, just so they can get them married!)
Sellers, That is the thing with selfmade men. They believe anyone could be the Lucky one. They can´t anymore. We are to bound up in social systems, and climbing the ladder has allways, allways, allways got something to do with ---Mney!!!
Saga´s got a good song about that on their first album: Nice, Ice, everythings twice as nice, with money in your hands...
And you are overidialising the possibilities. It just isn´t the case of someone having an idea, fundraising and getting fixed up on the gravy-train. You have to pay a price, and I believe, you have to sell your principals, start being corrupt, cut down concerning your health and in most cases being unable to be happy about the little things.
*Engländer being happy thinking of that lovely beer he´s brewing *
Problems to solve on the way to this attitude are (of course): Envy, Small Account, lack of selfesteme, paranoia (Ein Gespenst geht um in Europa, das Gespenst des Komunismus), lazyness, parents, that mad exwife, wanting your last penny,...

A few unrelated comments:
* The trip was fabulous. I ended up in Glenwood Springs, a city which gushes with hot mineral water baths. The caverns also looked interesting, but I spent rather too much time holed up in a cozy hotel room to care.
* I don't think Bill Gates really believes he is above the law. He does believe that he should be above the law, and I think he hopes his opinions will prove to be contagious. He's pretty darned charismatic for a nerd.
* Attractive female CEOs are popular for the same reason that attractive male CEOs are. Give the Earth another decade and we'll start to see Time Magazine's top 50 eligible women -- and they'll all be wealthy and attractive. Hopefully by that time, we'll also have decent pornography for women. But with that latter prediction, I'm probably just dreaming.
* Englander, you shouldn't worry about the triple-post. A round of freshly brewed cyberbeer, and we'll all forget.

There are a couple of semi-mindless rants recently posted in the forums off http://www.h2g2.com/A273557 if anyone is interested, although they aren't directly related to the task of crushing anyone's faith or anything.
For the record I think most corporations are safe feeling that they are above the law. The government of the United States (which, as someone pointed out, isn't really much of a Democracy so much as a democratic republic) is being used by other corporations as a tool to defend their own interests, and it is currently being aimed at Microsoft for that purpose.
To illustrate:
Corporations that have donated at least $500,000 to both Gore and Bush

There is a lovely one going on in Germany for the last 3/4 of a year. I do not know how much of it is known outside of Germany.
Until 2 years ago we had Helmut Kohl as Bundeskanzler for Germany. He has always been more liked in foreign parts than in Germany.
Because of the change of gouvernment, and because the Taxboard at Augsburg were looking into the doings of one Mr. Schneider (apparently living in Canada and making shure he needn´t come out) they found out, that H. Kohl had collected 2.000.000 DM from people without declaring his sources (which is neccessary for donations above 20.000 DM).
As he had made a vow never to tell who did it (this was the act of an "man of honour") the new govornement had to put up a penalty of 6.000.000 DM. What did Kohl do? Go round and collect 6.000.000, just like that. Happy as a halloweenpumpkin he presented it, after the press going at him like they had never done in 16 years of political responsability.
So. What do I learn? If I would dabble the state for peanuts, I´d be bound to get hell on my heels. If you have been in power and are an elected member of parliament, you can dabble the state and give them hell if they think you´ve done something illegal.
German saying: Legal, Illegal, Scheißegal.
(Legal, illegal, doesn´t matter a damn.)
I´m just thinking: that´s nothing new what I´ve written, sounds bloody familiar. I do wish I was allowed spitting here.

I'm not sure if I can get this link to work properly here, but anyway :-
Unholy news from last Monday's Guardian @
http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4036272,00.html
for anyone who's planning to attend any of this year's British outdoor music festivals. Just watch out for those crazies with the white capes and the funny Druid helmets, okay? And don't say you weren't warned...
I thought these festivals were strictly peace-loving hippie affairs. Where have I been these last twenty years...
Business Forum X
Lear (the Unready) Posted Jul 10, 2000
No, that link doesn't seem to be working.
Watch out, anyway, for a group of self-proclaimed 'chosen people' touring the festivals calling themselves the 'Twelve Tribes'. Nice, vegetarian, bearded, anti-semitic, racist, misogynist, Christian fundamentalist types. Can't trust anyone these days, blahblah, grumble, casts mind back to early post-68 days, I remember during the 'Events', etc...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring you an Important Announcement!
Those of you who have been with the Foundation from antiquity will remember that one of our first projects (right after the renaming) was the conceptualization and design of a logo for our hallowed institution. Unfortunately, our volunteer artist was unable to find the time to bring the concept to reality, and the project has languished. I have commissioned a new artist, our own Asteroid Lil...
... yes, Asteroid Lil, to take up the project. As a true artist, she has concepts of her own, and she has already brought the first of these to fruition. I invite you all to see the prototype for our new insignia here: http://www.h2g2.com/A390863
View. Discuss.

jbliqemp... Posted Jul 12, 2000
Oops. That would have been me.
Ah, well. I imagine (and see) that Lil's a far better artist than me anyways. If I recall correctly, it's what she does for a living, too.
I like the insignia. Works well. Good work Lil

Anyone read "Why I am not a christian" by Bertrand Russel?

Fragilis - h2g2 Cured My Tabular Obsession Posted Jul 12, 2000
The graphic looks faboo.
I read Bertrand Russell's treatise. I found it to be one of those frustrating attempts where someone attempts to use logic to confound faith. Unfortunately, we all know this doesn't work. The whole essay amounts to a liberal bout of "preaching to the choic." (Pardon my religious analogy.) It is, however, very interesting reading.
You can read the whole thing at:

Man, those are a riot. Of course, I like the one about what happens when you die the most. Chick pamphlets are very popular here in Denver, Colorado, US. A small minority of Spanish-speaking people use them 'get out the good message' to people they can't talk to. Many of these don't even know what the pamphlet they are passing out is about. And of course, if you want to complain you'd better be able to speak Spanish.

Talene Posted Jul 18, 2000
Christianity is not the problem. Mainly, it's the Christians, the more fundamentalist ones in particular. My sister has a small poster hanging in her kitchen with the "three steps to living a happy christian life" or something. They are as follows:
1. Know God's Word.
2. Believe God's Word.
3. Ignore any sensory input (what you see/hear/etc..) which contradicts God's Word.
If I could convince enough people to do that, and then become a minister (they have to have someone to tell them God's Word, since they're not allowed to think for themselves), then I could probably take over the world.
hmm.... are you thinking what I'm thinking, PInky?
Business Forum X
Tschörmen (german) -|-04.04.02 Posted Jul 18, 2000
That is the thing about it. The whole thing of christianity lies rested in itself, and only if you decide to not-believe a word of it you´re out and able to start thinking.
How about this one:
1. Know the Hitchhikers Guide
2. Belive the Hitchhikers Guide
3. Ignore any sensory input which contradicts the Hitchhikers Guide.
If I could convince enough resercher to believe that and convince them to donate me enough money and then become their Publisher, I could rule the world.
And that is the garbage christians believe.
Key: Complain about this post
