Hi Jeni!
Mike A told me about you and said you were looking to correspond with Americans. He'll tell you all about me. And of course you can check out my home page here. If you want to hear from me, answer here and I'll write (I don't post my email address cos I'm crotchety about unsolicited stuff).

cool, so you live in the USA - you're so lucky, if you like you can e-mail me and I'll e-mail you back. I thought Mike A hated America?
Where abouts in America do you live??
You're sooo lucky.

I don't hate America...I just hate it when people give it undeserved hype and praise.
"bang bang I shot you and there's nothing your country can do to stop my children from shooting your children"
That's worth praising???
But of course, America gave us Slayer . Pansy attitude, but great music.

Jeni, I will be in touch.
Mike, America gave you da blues, too, don't forget. So let's show some respect here.
Sorry about the gun laws. I'd rewrite them tomorrow if I had the power, and put a bloody great piece of duct tape across Charlton Heston's mouth.
Didn't we also invent duct tape? 8-|| <-- duct tape across mouth

ok, so the gun laws aren't great, but people get shot here too. Everything (apart from the gun laws) rule in America.

and America gave us really fine actors like David Duchovny, Leo, Noah Wyle, Erik Palladino, etc. and all the best tv shows like friends, ER, the X files, etc. and all of the best singers and bands!

Iron Maiden are British.
Eric Clapton is British
Bryan Ferry is British.
So are The Young Ones (all of them), those great TV shows I listed to Jeni.
Anything by Cosgrove Hall is British and is great. Rex The Runt, Wallace & Gromit, Gogs (Gogs is a Welsh production btw).
James Bond...great computrer game churner-outers , Saxon...the list goes on and on.
Let's not forget the fabulous New Wave Of -British- Heavy Metal.
Britain has fine weather, despite what people say. I'd rather have a bit of cold then sunburn and skin cancer. Plus, cold means you don't have to strip virtually butt-naked and still sweat like a pig's nose.
Ok, try not to get down to a "my country's better" match.

You list all those names, but where do they turn to learn the mother tongue (blues)?

What is duct tape?
Yeah, blues is the foundations of everything that is music. You learn to play guitar at 5 beats a minute, and from then on you use your initiative and rock the world with HM!!!!
Hey, remember what I'm giving up for Lent

anywayz more to the point, now let's not argue over it, 'cos we all have our individual opinions and we shouldn't be arguing over which are right and which are wrong.
Let's just RESPECT each other's opinions.
Mike A, You obviously think Britain is good while I do aswell, although I just think America is much, much better.
And, Everything that Britain has, either came from America or We got the idea from the Americans.
RESPECT

Of course, on the other hand, Just about all of America came from England on the Mayflower (which sailed from where else, Plymouth).
Duct tape is extremely sticky fabric-backed tape, about 2 inches wide, usually silvery, very strong. Popular in home-repair and kidnapping.
You probably know what it is by a British name.

How cheeky. Demanding peace and respect and then telling what can only be described as a LIE.
If you like Britain as much as me then your love for America must be suicidal. Jeepers! *^_^*
Seeing as I'm not the American here, I'll leave it to you two.
At least, until Asteroid Lil reappears

Mike, so you're _officially_ a prat now?
Here's a thought about comparing the two countries: If you have work and you're connected to your community, then yes, America is terrific. But if you lose your job and you don't find something else, then you also lose your health insurance. And soon, your savings, and then your house. There is no safety net. There is only the street.
So England is maybe not so shiny and new and full of toys, but it still looks after its population, in spite of what Thatcher tried to do. And England doesn't let its population shoot each other freely.
I have lived in both countries, and I confess I am thoroughly spoiled by the material comforts of Florida. But I miss England. I do not miss the english climate, but maybe that's because I lived in Birmingham

Well, I was thinking of just putting ACE on the end of my name, and see how long it took the real ACEs to notice. But I couldn't resist the jab at the Post Researchers. *^_^*
And, hey, methinks what you says is true. things are also a bloody lot cheaper in America, grr.

Errmmm.....can I comment without getting shot!
I'm an Alabama, US "redneck", "hippie reject"!
The US was first founded as a British colony. We're a long way from there now. We are a blend of as many countries as you can name....and some which no longer exist. Some have a harder time melding their culture into the fabric of national conciousness than others, but eventually, they all become "us".
No, Lil, there is no safety net here, but at the same time....there is no ceiling, either. I've survived on the downside of Capitalism, and succeeded(modestly)on the upside. I discovered that life here is what *you* make it. I know it's got it's flaws, people fall through the cracks everyday, but I'll still take it over anything else I've seen out there!
Oh, and Mike.....in case you haven't noticed....Clapton has gone "pure Blues" now. In an interview, I heard him say he never did a song without a blues lick in it somewhere.....just to keep himself honest to his music.
The blues were invented in the Black clubs of New Orleans, Louisianna, US.....and are the basics of modern rock. Be it Rockabilly or Heavy Metal.

Good lord, people are soo keen to remind me that HM is an offshoot of da bluez.
Yeah, I know Clapton's gone back to basics. I do own Pligrim, and have Chronicles on video.
I'm not going to argue that there's always a blues bit in a Clapton song, but they're just not very conspicuos to the untrained ear!
Reading a Clapton biography, seen just how many covers the guy's done!
Hey Lil, Ry Cooder's on Money & Cigarettes, y'know! Nice
My hands are screwed up somehow. I can't click my fingers, can't make fist like I could two or three hours ago, and my typing's all goddamn dyslexic...
